The proximity of US troops will trigger the generation of suicidal militia units in each urban area. Kamakazi attacks may occur at the beginning of the scenario, causing the premature withdrawal of some units. ********** BRIEFING: In July of 1945 the Japanese deployed the 16th Area Army on the southernmost of their home islands, Kyushu. This force consisted of seven Coastal and seven Line combat divisions, supplemented by independent infantry brigades and a motley assortment of tanks. The total number of troops on the island came to about 450,000, NOT including the fanatical civilian militias. The Marine Amphibious Corps was already in training for the operation, when President Truman made the fatal decision to end the war through the use of atomic weapons. He could have refrained from the use of the Bomb; the result would have inevitably been the invasion. Most analysts predicted US casualties at over one million killed and wounded, Japanese deaths in the millions.
