Similar as for the tutorials I think it would be great if we could have a sticky thread with links to all the map screenshots that are presented. Please update this message if I have forgotten some links.

Forgive me, as I just started reading this forum (so I don't want to search around for my answer forever) but is there going to be a "zoom in/out" function in this game? JMO, but I find it very helpful.

Welcome to the forum.

8 levels: from 17 by 19 pixels per hex up to 136 by 152 pixels.

Are the map reviews that Mike Fisher was doing still going on?  I found them quite interesting, but they stopped after only a couple maps.

I also found it quite handy to see the finalized versions of the various maps, since many of the screenshots in this thread are not the most current maps.

Any chance we could continue the review, Steve?  I know they are considered 'complete', but just to give some nice closure to this 3 year map evolution it would be nice to see the final versions with all the revisions that were made over the course of discussions.

He mailed me a couple of weeks ago to tell me he was very busy in his real life with no time for games.

Yes, I agree.

Ok. But it will only be one section at a time (per week?), since it would be a major interruption in my work to do all of them at once.

So, what is the order in which you would like them presented?

Australia and Europe were already done.  Perhaps do North America first, since it saw some substantial changes and polish, then perhaps work east from Europe.

No rush on it, just whenever you have the chance.  Would be really nice to see the completed maps in all their glory (and one last check for any outstanding map errors).

Thanks.

So as far as zooming out it's only going to still be a pretty small view then?

There is a global map where each hex is 2 pixels by 2 pixels. That lets you see the entire world - look at the Tutorial Map thread for seeing how that appears on the screen.

The minimal monitor size for MWIF is 1024 by 768, so at the lowest resolution (zoom 1) you see roughly 50 hexes wide by 38 high. If you have a bigger monitor, you can see more, of course.

But even using my double monitors (2560 by 1024) I see a mere pittance of the 360 hexes wide by 195 hexes high full world map - if that is what you meant by "a pretty small view".
