Some common Q and A

Q. Running under Vista. When I open it and press "play" I get "Close Combat: Cross Of Iron has stopped working and will now close" message. I've read I

believe that I need to run it in Windows ME/2000 but don't know what that means or how to do that

A.Try running in win98 compatibility mode.

Navigate to C:\Program file\Close Combat\Close Combat III

Right click on CC3.exe and choose compatibility mode

Select win98 compatibility

Also select administrator

This should get you up and running next time you launch cross of Iron

Q.OK, I downloaded it again, exact same size. It still doesn't work...

When I first launch from the CoI Command Center I get the familiar red "Loading" screen, hear the music, and then a black screen. I can only exit by

hitting my Start button and closing the "unresponsive program".

A. try holding down ctrl when you launch.

then turn off videos

alternatively

download the intel codec from CSO Downloads in command centre

Command Centre\CSO Downloads\Utilities\ Intel Codec for CoI

then run that before launching. (only needs to be run once)

Q.Error message "Rectangle Provided is invalid"
A. From another thread:
quote:

Hi. The smallest screen resolution in CC3 are 800*600. If you try to play with a smaller map, or set up the resolution to more than the map you

want to play, you get "INVALID RECTANGLE ERROR" and the game will crash, boom, bang...
I think the smallest map in CC3 must be 840*600.

So , try lowering your screen resolution and see if that works.

Q. "CC3.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. [...] For more information about this error, click here"

A.Try running in win98 compatibility mode.

Navigate to C:\Program file\Close Combat\Close Combat III

Right click on CC3.exe and choose compatibility mode

Select win98 compatibility

Also select administrator

This should get you up and running next time you launch cross of Iron

Q."The following file is in use and cannot be updated" and then mentions a number of files in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM such as oleant32.dll.

A. the install should continue if you click through.

Q. MMCC3
I wonder if you can help me with this problem relating to MMCC3.

For a while i have had no problems playing H2H or against AI, however tonight i tried to play a game against the AI and i got the following error

'failed to create game/game/save/cc3start'

then it bombed me out of COI

any answers would be greatly appreciated

A. Navigate to your close combat3/game/save/ folder

Is Cc3start there?

If not DL it from here

ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/closec...t/CC3Start.zip

Q. my CSO Downloads in the command centre button doesn't work

A.That means you didn't do a full install... easily missed.

Run CloseCombatCC.exe From your support folder

C:\Program Files\Close Combat\Close Combat III\Support\CloseCombatCC.exe

Technical issues have meant a new support site has been set up

http://closecombat.matrixgames.com

Q. installed cross of iron but when i try opening it i get error message saying unable to create multimedia stream.am running xp and have tried win98

compatibility mode but get same messsge. any suggestions would be of great help.
A.try holding down ctrl when you launch.

then turn off videos

alternatively

download the intel codec from CSO Downloads in command centre

Command Centre\CSO Downloads\Utiliteis\ Intel Codec for CoI

then run that before launching. (only needs to be run once)

Q. Hello everyone,

I'm having a problem with modswap. I can't uninstall the mod GreatWar v1.01. This is what happened:

1- Installed the mod GreatWarv1.01. Played for some days. Everything great.

2- Uninstalled GreatWarv1.01. Installed Grossdeutschland mod. Played for some days. Everything ok.

3-Went to modswap to yet again uninstall a mod. Modswap is telling me that GreatWar is installed, although Grossdeutschland is. Went to File>Uninstall

but nothing happens. Can't install any mod because it says that GreatWar is installed.

4-Reinstalled the game. ModSwap still says that GreatWar is installed and therefore I'm locked unable to install or uninstall any mods.

Is there a way to "reset" modswap or something? Please help!

A. see here for same problem:

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1426003

This happens if you have 2 instances of modswap open at once.

be careful not to do it!!!

D:\Program Files\Close Combat\Close Combat III\instmods.ini

This is what it should look like with no mods installed

Q. How do I get on Battle HQ? When I click on it in the Command Center nothing happens. Any help or suggestions on what to do to fix lit would be

appreciated.

A.It means you cancelled the installation before it completed!

run CloseCombatCC.exe from your \support folder.

C:\Program Files\Close Combat\Close Combat III\Support\CloseCombatCC.exe

MODS

The mods are available from this site

http://closecombat.matrixgames.com/CoI/coimods.html

this can also be accessed by clicking on the closecombat.org button on "Command Center" for CoI and navigating to the Downloads section.

When you download a mod they arrive mostly as exe files

Run the file and the mod will be installed to your \plugins folder.

Run "ModSwap" from command center to install the mod... you also uninstall through command center.

read C:\Program Files\Close Combat\Manuals\CCModSwap Utility.pdf for detailed instructions on ModSwap.

Most mods will need a Map Pack downloaded as well... see link above.

Battle HQ

There is now a Close Combat Modern Tactics Room set up on BHQ

You can download BHQ HERE http://powerlobbies.com/Downloads.htm

You will need to go into menu configure/configure and tick CCMT room.

Also /Filter change your text colour to anything but black.

You will have to exit BHQ then re-enter for the update to take effect.

Select the CCMT room

Go to Configure/configure

And select "Do not use directplay"

and browse to your Close Combat Modern Tactics.exe

When games are launched from a BHQ room now all CCMT players in the room will have their game launch automatically.

Navigate to the Multiplayer room. (Host selects a battle first)

All others search for host and press ctrl-V to enter the hosts IP address.

Double click on the battle shown and you are connected.

This should get you up and running

Andrew
