As there seems to be some difficulty in creating rivers, i will use this thread to show as much about it as possible.
The first lesson will help you creating a simple river in the terrain. Questions and remarks are welcome to speed up learning or to head this into a direction that was missed but neccessary to explore.

So lets go for it. Start the game and select the "Run Editor" in the main menu. You should have a menu bar on the left where you should click "Terrain" which opens the menu on the right like seen in the image here.
Make sure "Field" is selected and then open the drop down menu for the terrain. Choose the enty "River Draw" - thats our tool of choice.

Now you can draw river hexes by clicking anywhere. First it creates strange patterns but don't worry, it will be fine if you use adjacent hexes and draw the river in a line that leads somewhere.

As you progress, you can notice that at the end you are working on there will be red markers and strange unfitting models. That is because the routine seeks fitting pieces of the puzzle and does not always find them in any situation. But they always are sorted out as you progress and your river path gets clearer to the game.

Each river needs a source and some kind of mouth to be properly displayed by the game. The borders act as such a mouth as well as connections to water hexes (sea or big lakes). The source is automatically assumed on the other end of the river as long as it ends on land. You can create rivers without source by leading them to the border of your map on both ends.
This is the simplest and fastes way of creating a river in Germany at War.

Hi Ronald,

So the rivers were under Field. I was looking under Terrain and Material.

Now the only thing I need for Bryansk and Tula is a couple of weekends for scenario building and tests. Good luck to 2nd Panzer Group as Tula will be a winter scenario, like Moscow. But the plan for Operation Typhoon has also been changed, instead of encircling Moscow AGC will take it with a more or less frontal attack. Let's hope the panzer divisions of 2nd Panzer Group can destroy some enemy units before they run out of fuel.

My first successful river building map.

Hi AngrySwan,

great that the notes helped you with your rivers. "River Draw" is also available if you have chosen "Terrain" and not "Field" while working the same. I just recommmended the steps here to make sure everybody is on the same page. Looking forward to your Bryansk map. Tula sounds dangerous to a German General.

Hi Ronald,

I need to draw one more river in the west and add Bryansk itself, then I can start placing units and working on victory conditions.

Tula will be defended by infantry divisions and there will be a strong Soviet force next to the city. There could be some battalion bunkers in front of the city but only as appetizers, the real fight will be in the city and around it. Depending on how strong the Soviets feel, they could even advance and maybe it would take more than one attack to take the city.

The historical plan to bypass the city and go north seems unrealistic, panzers in winter are slow crawlers and fuel eaters and I may not have enough rsources to feed them. So the battle could be a meat grinder around Tula with panzers on the flanks and infantry taking the city.
