I just switched over to a 19" TFT from a 15" CRT and the game looks worse on my new display then before, due to the 1024X768 max res. setting. Is there a way to get 1280X1024 (TFT native) resolution for this game? Any patche or something?

Also, I have a PBEM game and I play the american side. My partner sent me the turn and I viewed the combat replay without a glitch. On the other hand as I try to upload the turn and it asks for the password the game puts me back to the main menu :-(. And I'm sure there is no passwords set. (It happens if either I press OK or cancel).

Thanks in advance for YOur help,

Akos

Try windowed mode?

Is it your turn?...what player's password is it asking for?

Type the following into a DOS window (assuming the program is in the same folder) or create a shortcut with this command line.

"C:\Uncommon Valor\uncommonvalor.exe" -w

quote:

Uncommon Valor v1.10 Changes - Released 6/17/2002

28) Please note that the program will now run inside of a window, instead of full screen, if in
1024x768x16 bit screen mode and if the command line parameter –w is used.

Best of luck,

It works, but I can'T move on the map with the mouse, so the gameplay is a bit cumbersome...

I've got the same problem with the resolution and I can't get the game to run in a window. When I try a DOS command prompt, I can't get to the C: drive alone. I only get C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>C: When I type in Matrix Games. or Uncommon Valor, or C I get a message telling me that "Matrix is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file"

I tried making a short cut too, and that doesn't work either. I made the target "C:\Matrix Games\Uncommon Valor\UncommonValor.exe" w, and that doesn't work. There is a space between the w and the ". When I try to end it as "-w, I get a message telling me the name specified in the target box is not valid. I've tried it a lot of different ways, and nothing seems to work. Any other ideas?

I'm running Windows XP.

Thanks.

Assuming default installation is used.

Shortcut for windowed version's target should be:
"C:\Matrix Games\Uncommon Valor\uncommonvalor.exe" -w

Start in :
"C:\Matrix Games\Uncommon Valor"

Michael,

I got it to open in a window using the target you gave me, but it still isn't working right. The window is only about 3/4 of my computer screen. When I try to maximize it, it makes the window bigger but not the UV game screen. I tried changing the box that reads "Run" from normal to maximize, but that didn't work either. It wouldn't be so bad, but the letters are still blurry and in certain spots they over lap other letters, like whein I open the base info box. Any other ideas?

My screen is set to 1280 x 1024 resolution and set at 16 bit color quality.

Thanks,

Max

I'm guessing, but try a different ( lower ) resolution setting.

Yes. I think the screen resolution is too high.

On the preference menu of UV, you set what resolution to play the game in.
If you select the higher one (1024x768) and your screen is at 1280x1024, you will get a smaller than full screen game display.

Changing the resloution of my monitor to 1024 X 768 doesn't work either. Maybe I misunderstood, though. I though the idea of having it run in a window would get the reslolution of the game to 1280 x 1024, which is the native resolution of my monitor. Is that in incorrect assumption?

It's not a game killer, it's just that some of the words get written over by other words, and they are a little blurry. Maybe I'll send an e-mail to Matrix.

Csatahajos, did you get the game to run in you monitor's native reslolution? How did you do that?

Thanks.

Ok, i've tested the window mode and saw some "problems".
The desktop link generated by installation pointed to
c:\.....\autorun.exe and adding the "-w" parameter had
no effect. I created a new link pointing to
c:\.....\uncommonvalor.exe and added the parameter
as suggested above.

The program started in a Windows window (sic!) and
NOT in the usual fullscreen mode (my desktop is
1280x1024). From thereon everything was okie dokie,
but if i wanted to scroll the map i had to move the
mouse pointer to the border of the monitor, the window
borders had no effect.

So, check the program link, add the parameter and enjoy
the game in a window on your monitor's native resolution.

Cheers,
Floyd

Floyd,

Thanks for the advice, but it's not working. My shortcut never pointed to \autorun.exe., it always pointed to\uncommonvalor.exe

Sorry to hear that. Btw, this didn't work:
"D:\Matrix Games\Uncommon Valor\uncommonvalor.exe -w"

This did:
"D:\Matrix Games\Uncommon Valor\uncommonvalor.exe" -w

Floyd,

I found out what the problem was.
There was a thread in the Tech Support forum:

Unreadable fonts on UV (Windows XP):

This is due to Xp´s "ClearType" feature. In order to fix this problem just disable ClearType.

To disable ClearType font smoothing, right-click on your desktop, select Properties, select the Appearance tab and press the Effects button. There is a drop down box to choose between Standard or ClearType font smoothing.

Just click standard font and your good to go.

Here's the link. There are some scans so you can see what I meant.

Thanks,

Max

Good call.

I never have noticed any issue with the fonts with UV on XP machine.

Now that you have mentioned it, I will have to go back and check. Maybe my eye-sight is failing me...
