I am trying to get a surface combat TF to follow a transport TF, however when I select the TF to follow ir displays the range in red. Will the surface TF still follow the transport one?

Yes, it's "normal"... The game is no more able to calculate the range to the target (as it had no more) and so is displaying a high number that turns all in red.

IIRC the first number before the slash is the real range, in your case 50 hexes. If that is not enough your TF will refuel at sea from the transports anyway.

Thanks for that, you've put my mind at rest.  It did have the possibility of a major cock-up

Dixie, there's ALWAYS the chance for a major cock-up...

I could make a cheap joke at the expense of the RN at this point, but that would be far too easy....

Somtimes if you choose a closer home port for the TF the 99999 thing will go to a normal setting.

When that happens, just re-do the follow orders, it usually will clear it up and turn green again.

I tried that several times, it stayed red. I tried changing homeports for both TFs. We shall see what happens when I get the turn back I guess.

maybe you needed a better TF commander. J/k, it shouldn't matter.

I think if you set the combat ships home base to that of the destination, the red will go away, (if it matters.)..
Besides, you can always send a replenishment group to follow the TF..
