The game really shows the limitations of the spit, and hurricane for that matter. I was pretty excited to get them but they come on in numbers at about the time the Japanese go over to the defensive and then they really do not see much action. I know, some will say that they can be used for defensive cap, but by 1943 there are so many good fighters that can serve that purpose.

For all its performance and sleek beauty, any aircraft with a 2 hex max range is just about useless.

They're a bit underrepresented in stock. CHS rectifies the problem, with an extra hex of combat range. Spitfires saw very heavy use in real life, but mainly on the defensive, obviously. They had plenty to do all the same.

Yes, an extra hex would help quite a bit.

Even with their limitations there's always a need for good front line CAP, also in Burma many cities are close enough together for them to conduct sweeps. Thank heaven for the Thunderbolt and Mosquito, but also for the Spit...50 Spits make a very impressive CAP.

I love the Spit, even the V.
There's no better defensive fighter till the Corsair arrives. And even then it still does its job all right.

Unless the Japs have been doing a very lousy job you should need some serious defensive fighter until at the very least the end of '42.

And you should also consider the deterrence effect. When I play the Japs I simply avoid attacking bases where I now the Spits are defending.
Hence you don't see them in action, but they actually prevent it from happening.

I think that is called 'Deterrence"

Which is why I mentioned in the line above that one the "deterrence effect"

The Spitfire is superlative, but I think I like the Seafire better; it can be parked directly on your enemy's doorstep...

Worry not. I actually appreciated it.

I wish more people would correct English mistakes of not mother tongue, such as myself.
AFAIK it's the only way to get better.

Thanks, I mean it.

My Spitfires in my PBEM (and AI) game have performed very well. They helped prevent the capture of Akyab....

Sorry, not attempting to correct anything. Your post was correct. I just did not realize you had already mentioned deterrence.

I understand. But you were suggesting a way to summarize the concept I expressed in one word. Believing I didn't know the word.
The fact that I actually knew it this time it's irrelevant
This time I knew it, but other times I don't since my language is Italian.

I can understand that some people would resent a "suggestion", I don't - if it's not meant to offend of course (see ChezDaJez ) -.
I'm always trying to improve my English and the only way is to be corrected when I'm wrong and to be suggested for better expressions.

Hence: thanks

A quicker way of saying "a deterrence effect" would be to say "a deterrent".

I wish I knew italian even one thousandth as well as you know english...

No matter how pathetic your Spanish, it can't be worse than mine...

"Dos cervezas, por favor!"

and

"Donde esta la biblioteca?"

If you're asking for more beer, you might want to ask, "Donde esta el servicio?" rather than for the library...

I am American and speak American, not English.
I have been to parts of England in my younger days and could not understand what they were saying (northern England to be exact).  However, I went to Norway for a weekend visit and they spoke an Americanized English that was easy for me to understand. Go figure.
For the last 15 years I am what is considered a "transplant." I came from the North (upstate New York & Vermont) and went to college in NE Georgia. I was a delivery driver for Pizza Hut and for a few months had a lot of trouble understanding the "locals" when talking to them on the phone.
I still get made fun of by some of my co-workers by the way I pronounce certain words. Thus, I proudly proclaim myself as a "Damn Yankee."

I've studied "English" in several different places: UK (Kent, London, Edinburgh), Malta (if you can call that English!) and the US (Boston and San Francisco mainly).
I've also traveled to lots of places and heard lots of Englishes.
What I've understood so far is that there's pretty much one written English (I know, there are some differences ) and thousands of spoken ones.

I can watch BBC and CNN and understand almost as if it was Italian.
On the other hand, a little while ago I got "Oh brother where are thee" with G. Clooney. It could have been Turkish to me!!
I could hardly understand a couple of words!!

Loved the music though.
I bought the soundtrack, and found out it is actually a retelling of the Odissey.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
You've got to love Homer.

A former Vermonter who roots for the Yankees? Say it ain't so! In some parts of New England , that's a capital offense.

Actually, for sports teams, I have only one NY based team (or close to it). I am a "die hard" NY Giants fan.
I have DirecTV only for Sunday Ticket.
I am a Boston Celtics fan.
I am a Montreal Canadian and Expos fan (they may be the Nationals, but I became a fan when the team was formed in the 60's).

I hate the Dallas Cowgirls with a passion.
I dislike George and thus am a fan of teams playing the "evil empire." But, could care less about how well the Red Sox do or don't do.

"Oh Brother Where Art Thou" is a very strange film, until you remember that it was directed by the Cohen brothers. Then it's only marginally odd...

The Big Lebowski is my particular favourite. God, what a strange film!
