With the massive map of the Asian interior included, I'd like to ask for a campaign scenario starting on July 7th 1937, when Japan histroically attacked China. One of the great features about the Days of Decision expansion for the World in Flames board game is that it allowed players to fight the war in China prior to the Pearl harbor attacks.

I think it would be an intersiting insight into the pacific campaign if you could include this option with limited Japanese assets available to the Japanese until November 1941, when everything would then be made availabe for the early December Pearl Harbor attack and raids into the Dutch East Indies.

The Japanese faced a tough proposition in their attempted conquest of China due to the huge amount of territory they had to try and control with limited numbers of troops. Just trying to protect their strategic rail lines proved difficult, let alone controlling all the isolated towns and villages behind their front lines. China rasied entire Divisions (granted they were almost worthless in major combats) of troops in areas behind the lines and the Japanese could do little to inteceded.

I'd love to fight this land campaign as a lead in to the Pacific War, and I'm sure it would allow for many what-ifs and different strategic outcomes to the start of the Pacific War. Think of the possibilities! What does everyone think?

Jim

If this was a part of WitP then I do not think that this part should be 1 week turns! Imagine, 150 turns before you get to do any ship battles!

How about this, for a twist in a 1937 campaign scenerio. Have a "Panay Incident" variable, where there is a chance (albeit slight) that the US declares war over the attack on the Panay. It would be a great change of pace to play of Pacific war with a 1937 OOB. Airpower would be less important and BBs would be more important.

Hypothetically if this scenerio was possible. would the Dutch continue to sell oil to Japan in 1937? If no and Japan had tried to quickly capture DEI. Would Britain declare war on Japan in 1937 at the hieght of the appeasement era? If so you could have major portions of the British Fleet fighting in the Pacific aslo.

It might be a fun change of pace, but I certainly wouldnt want to delay the release if the game for it.

Personnally, I'd like to see a "Japan allies with Germany in 1939" varient. It might be interesting to invade Indo-china from Hainin and Formosa and only having Akagi, Kaga, and Ryujo to cover the landings in the Indies. Perhaps US entry could be determined by how successful Japan is; sort of how the US did in the Atlantic. No help for the Allies in 1939, but then the US becomes gradually involved. Garrisons provided for French islands (like the US did for Iceland), old US destroyers released to Australia, US Naval escorts for convoys to Australia, and so on until the US enters the war.
However, if by some chance Britain/Australia/New Zealand are winning against Japan, US aid becomes less likely, but if Japan is so successful that they're invading New Zealand and overrunning Australia, US intervention becomes a certainty.

Hmmmm, interesting. I wonder, if Britain went to war with Japan in '37, then I could also see the French and possibly Austraila also getting involved. (France because of Indo-china and Australia simply following Britain).

Wonder what this would have done for Gemanys timetable for war.....they sure were not ready by '37. But with Britain and France looking the other way in Asia, one wonders.

Jim,

We are definitely thinking about adding scenarios that start prior to 7 Dec 41.

Rich

Hi, I think Mr Ed...itor solves all these desires. Once the game comes out and if it includes an editor there will be scenarios popping up all over. All the design team has to do is create the historical game, the matrix forum crowd will do the rest. I expect full OB's to be posted from 1900 on. Personally I am going to do the Russian-Japanese War

Introduction from 'The Japan-Russia War by Sydney Tyler 1903

"The Japan-Russia War goes into history as the greatest military struggle the world has known....."

A book I found on my grandparents bookself when I was a very young boy. (1960) It was the first book on war I ever read. In fact I learned to read just for it (I looked at the pictures for a year before I could actually start to understand the writing. I think it might be the reason I play the Japanese so often.

Yes, Mogami, I think Mr. Ed... will be very popular when UV and WITP are released! We'll put together as many scenarios as possible to give you guys some fertile ground for spin-offs. 'The Japan-Russia War' huh, sure beats the hell out of "see Spot run"...

Thanks Rich, can you imagine if the book had been "The Modern Agricultural Applications of Natural Fertilizer" where I'd be today?

LOL

Hmmm... I guess you'd be camped over at the "Manure Spreaders Forum" eagerly awaiting the release of "Spring Composting Tips - 2002"?

Hey Mogami

I think Norm Koger ( Operational Art of War 1 + 2 ) is making a game of this! Check out his web site ( link is availible from Talonsoft.com ) but so far there is not much to read. Just thought you would be interested

I wonder if an event engine on the lines of TAOW will be incorporated into the editor. That would really alow users to create some great what if scenerios.
