I'm pretty confident that it is the NM Oct. 45.

Hi Tom,

sorry to argue again but I beg to differ. The two first pics are showing the Mississippi (you can know this from the added 5"/25 on the main deck next to barbette two and the quad Bofors mounting above the CT - these were specific ti Mississippi and these are clearly missing from the top down view - which leaves it to be NM (Idaho had turretted secondaries by this point).

Yes all Pictures are of USS Mississippi, adding to what csatahajos has said USS New Mexico had cranes on either side of the funnels. Also I’m pretty sure New Mexico was still in the yard after taking a bomb on the bridge, January 6, 1945.

I'm afraid not, the picture in post #5 (the broadsite shot) seems to be New Mex based on the AA layout and on this picture:

http://www.navsource.org/archives/01/014026.jpg (direct link doesn'T work to navsource so please copy paste)

It can clearly be seen that she has no raised quad Bofors gun tube over her CT nor any cranes next to the funnels and what's more and really gives it away is the huge SK air search set which is on the fore mast on New Mexico and on the mainmast in Mississippi (as can be seen on these very pictures as well).

So to put it short the bow-on shots are USS Mississippi BB-41 and the broadside shot is USS New Mexico BB-40.

Yep, it is discussions like this that helps make this a great forum. And i do not mean that ironically.

I can't believe how much you guys know about ships.

What is the heavy line near the bow in this pic. Is that a sound of some sort? Perhaps some tie down anchored permanently to the bed of the lock?

Also, look at the size of the torpedo bulge. Surely that did not help her speed through the water.

These forums really are awesome, I thought I knew something about wwII until I got here. Turns out, I don't know squat! Witp is great and even the anticipation for AE is fun, but these forums really do add much to my enjoyment of the game.

From the dim recesses of my mind, crammed as it is full of trivia, nonsense, and otherwise not in use stuff, I remember reading somewhere that those cables are used to cut the cables holding mines. How they would function thus was not explained, and I am not sure it is any more than sending a young boot down below for 100 yards of waterline from the chief engineer.

Or a bucket of prop wash at an airfield.

One thing that struck me in these pictures is how pudgy she looks compared to the fast BBs.  All BBs look bulky, but the fast BBs look like body builders and the old ones have lines more like a couch potato.
