No, you haven't missed anything, unless I did, too. The easiest way to tell if you have accurate info is when the search lists the name of a victim, err... ship, :D in the TF. Maybe someone else knows more?

von murrin, what do you mean by "search"? the manual says there are 0-9 levels of detection. i guess i'm looking for a number somewhere to tell me what level a base or tf is at for DL's.

I don't think that the game displays DLs. They are a mechanism the computer uses to keep track of how accurate intel is on a particular target. You can infer that the more detailed information you are provided on a target, the higher the DL. I wouldn't think there's any way to determine the DL for your own forces since that is a measurement of how much your enemy knows about your assets.

I think that the DL/MDL levels are basically concepts to allow the computer to determine how much information to display to you. Therefore (being an artificial representation) you shouldn't know what the "level" is currently. You can/should be able to roughly judge this by the quality and amount of information that you have on the base/tf/unit(s), etc.

By search I mean when one of your PBY's or such spot a TF. If they positively identify a ship, say you get a message saying "Hiryu", you know you've gotten a good detection.

I often get individual ships names reported in a task force sighting, I suspect the local weather conditions need to be ideal for this to occur.
