No, you cannot.
But you can destroy them, by placing one of yr units same hex with them and leave it there, unsuppressed, for one full turn(at least).

The real life reasoning behind the no capture was that it would take too long in real life for a crew to be trained on an unfamilar piece of equipment to use it properly and too difficult to code into the game.

Is is possible for an abandoned tank crew to get back into the tank then?

Yes, it is.
It has to be in the same hex with the vehicle (of course :) ), unsuppressed and unshot, too (I think).
Normally after one turn or two it will recrew the vehicle.
Very likely, you'll find your vechicle to be damaged by some extent, after it has been recrewed: either immobilized or having lost one or more of its weapons, etc..

NOTE: only the original crew can recrew its own vehicle.

Thank you for advice. I believe the same applies to field guns and artillery, and other units with crew. I've been wondering the same since i began playing SP. Is this an SPWAW feature or has it been in the original too?

Yes, any crewed weapon/vehicle can be recrewed with the same procedure.
BTW, you can also make a crew abandon a vehicle/gun by his own, using the "9" key.

As for SP/SPWAW I don't know, sorry.
