Good question: I guess you could always install 5.0 and then apply the upgrade patches. Does anyone know if the installer detects a newer version?

Another thing you can do, assuming you have the HD space, is to create a separate installation. Just rename the 'matrix games' folder to something like 'mg', or install to a different partition if you have one.

See the post from Gmanfan on new copies of MCNA that have come out. He answered me there.

Thanks Gary, I'm glad someone reads my posts. Unfortuantely during the installation of MCNA their is no way of preventing the game from reverting back to ver 5.x. After installing, the next best thing to do is intall a full ver of 7.X from somewhere over it, either with the WT or LV CD, or a full 7.1 download. Then upgrade to the newest version, and then apply all the Mega patches last. At the time MCNA was released it was inconceived that future Mega's would be on the way, so there was no way that this installation routine would become an issue. Sorry, you shouldn't have any problems as many gamers finally got their copies of MCNA and have gone through this process pretty much problem free. It won't effect any current saves provided you get your system back up the same status as you left it. And if something should go haywire, ask and I'll get you through it. Provided someone else doesn't jump in first. It might be a hassle but I'm sure you'll love MCNA and the extra effort will be worth it.

Arggggg....I was hoping it wouldnt be so.....oh well
Good thing I kept all the update zips.

One last q before I get to installing should I just install ver 5 over everything or uninstall it all?

Am I going to lose all my scenarios as well?

Depending on whether you got the early 5.01 or the later 5.3 version, you might try:

Back up your mech.exe and your oobs to another directory. Install Mcna and then copy your 7.1 mech.exe and oobs back to the spwaw directory.

That supposedly works if you have the 5.3 install which has the stereo sounds, if you have a 5.01 disk (could be a collectors item in a couple of years) you need to add the stereo sounds update as well. All the included scenarios are the same from 5.01 thru 7.1. If you have any downloaded scenarios or campaigns, back them up also, assuming you do an uninstall before installing MCNA.
thanks, John.

Hi Guys!

This works for me and pretty easy, If you have 7.1 already install in the default folder, just install the MC version in a temp folder do not let it reboot say no grab your MC and put in 7.1 folder, then delete the installation in the temp folder then you can reboot.

This way is pretty fast and no chance of hosing the default 7.1 installation.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING HERE IS DO NOT REBOOT THE PUTER AFTER INSTALLING IN THE TEMP FOLDER

I know by now I'm one step behind you. Both of what John G and Tankhead speak is the truth and will work, with Tankheads procedure their is one addtional file that needs to be moved from the temp installation directory before deleting and removing the bogus installation. In the Temp\SPWAW\MegaCam folder is a file "The Desert Fox-41.cfg" that needs to be moved into your existing MegaCam folder of the proper installation, without this file when choosing to play a MegaCampaign MCNA won't show up on the list.

It is a 5.01 disk. I received it 2-3 days after the first ones were shipped.
