Hi there,

Glad to announce PzB will be in Singapore from 24 to 31 Jan 2010. We thought of visiting most of the WW2 sights on Friday 29 Jan in the day and then have some Singapore Slings at Raffles Hotel in the evening. Calling on WITP warriors in Singapore to join us. We may be able to get PzB is give us a special lecture on JFB strategies and tactics! PM me.

Sounds nice, wish I could go. Too bad I'm stuck in New Jersey...

Don't forget to alert Pzb that it's an auto shock attack when he enters Singapore...

Count me in for the meet, the thread "Things to do in Singapore" was good for a chuckle or two, never gets old, when people talk about Singapore conversation invariably turns towards gum. I have a couple of places that you guys might be interested in taking a look at if you haven't already thought about them.

The Ford Motor Factory, haven't been to this place yet but it got spruced up good and it looks like it's worth a visit.
Reflections at Bukit Chandu, it's an exhibition housed in an old style house from colonial times, the house sits near Pasir Panjang Ridge, within sight of the city centre and the location of the last stand of the 2nd Battalion, Malay Regiment
http://www.s1942.org.sg/s1942/home/

Personally, I wouldn't waste time on the Johore Battery, the site is terribly underwhelming the only saving grace is that it's located just a short hop away from Changi Prison Chapel and Museum which to me is a must see. Ditto for Kranji War Memorial, I like the place in the early mornings, mosquitos will eat you alive if you stay too long though. Fort Siloso is going to eat up the better part of a day due to the fact you have to cross over to Sentosa and the site is fairly large but I guess it's worth a visit although the Fort and the island never played a part in the final outcome of the Battle for Singapore. Battle Box at Fort Canning is a total unknown to me, never seen the inside of the place.

My itinerary would be to start at Sarimbun, just outside the Scout Camp, the marshes around the area would give you a good idea of what the initial waves of Japanese troops had to overcome in addition to the Australian defenders, move down Choa Chu Kang Road down towards West Coast, obviously Singapore 2010 is much different from Singapore 1942 but that's about the general direction of the Japanese advance as they moved towards the city centre from the western end of the island, once you hit West Coast Road, stop off at Reflections at Bukit Chandu, then maybe swing over to Labrador Park to see the battery there and a view of Singapore Harbour from there and maybe Mount Faber as well if you have the time, from there, it's down to Sentosa and Fort Siloso, Battle Box at Fort Canning and then over to the east of Singapore to the Changi Prison Chapel and Museum. If you want to squeeze everything into a day I reckon it's going to be very much touch and go for the most part.

Edit: Forgot about dropping by at the Ford Motor Factory, would take that over Labrador Park maybe. Depends how fast you old guys can move :p

Hi there,

PzB is the most voracious Japanese player in WITP. He got quite a few AARs. Here is one :

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2324032

There are 3 confirmed for the 29 Jan gathering. PM me if you want to join us to visit some WW2 sites in Singapore.

I earned some dubious recognition after bringing the Japanese Army for a prolonged vacation in India in the original WitP game lb4269

Patrick, Arnhem - this sounds absolutely perfect!
Can't wait until Lufthansa will take me away from a feet of snow and to the warm history of Singapore.

One thing though, I'm going to work Monday 25th -> Friday 29th of January.
Statoil's Trading office in Singapore

Not sure I'll finish my duties until 17-1800 hours Friday 29th, but will have Saturday, Sunday and most of Monday off before shuttling back home.

Will stay at the Goodwood Park Hotel
- As I understand it's close to Raffles and has a history of its own:

"Few centenarians look as good as this Victorian-era castle built as a private social club for German expatriates. It survived the Japanese occupation of Singapore during the second world war, was used as the war crimes court after the Japanese surrender and now occupies a revered spot alongside Raffles as Singapore's more feminine grand dame. As with many landmark hotels, the original wing retains all the old-world ambiance of craftsmanship while the new wing is handsome but Spartan."

Hey Guys,

Wrong info. We are sightseeing on Sat 30 Jan! We will probably end at 3am on Sunday drunk and rowdy after watching some English Premier League Arsenal or MU match.

I'm sure he knows. But has the local female population been alerted yet? They'll need time to build fortifications!

Hi Jomni,

Chris (Arnhem) mentioned to me he knows an American in Singapore who has been here 3 years - is that you? Would you like to join us for sightseeing on 30 Jan 2010?

Later,
Pat

Hi Guys,

As pm earlier, we will adopt Chris' itinerary (Arnhem) for visiting the historical sites on 30 Jan 2010 :

1) 8am at Kranji War Memorial (estimated 1 to 2 hour)
2) Saribum Landing site (estimated 30 to 45 minutes)
3) Ford Factory Surrender site (estimated 1 to 1 and half hour)
Lunch @ Sentosa
4) Sentosa Fort Siliso (est 2 hours)
5) Changi Prison (est 1 to 1 and half hour)
6) Raffles Hotel Long Bar in the evening 8pm.

I will drive John (PzB) and Chris (Arnhem) while Michael U will pick up Mike (lb4269) and Michael's American friend. Mike - can you guys meet us at Kranji War Memorial at 8am on 30 Jan? Edwin (pacificbetta will meet us @ Raffles Hotel Long Bar that evening - I will reserve a table)

The itinerary is open to suggestions.

Pat
