Is this game more heavily slanted toward massive space battles (like AI Wars and Sins of a solar Empire), or is it more about thoughtful exploration, colonization and empire building (like MOO2 and Space Empires VI)? Without a demo to try it's hard to tell.

Hi Killpants,

It's more like the latter, although you can still have big space battles. The real-time aspect is secondary as there are various speed settings, going all the way down to REALLY slow and you can pause the game completely and still issue orders and work in all the screens.

Regards,

- Erik

Killplanets,

Welcome to DW forums, to expand further on what Erik mentioned, DW is more 4x than the games you mentioned which focus more on the Tactical with the exception to SINS (Has limited strategic options). At the same time DW uniquely doesn't bog you down with micro decisions like running an economy and personally managing your research. You just have to literally explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate. Nothing more, nothing less. A pure 4x game by definition.

Have either of you actually played AI War?! It's a FAR more strategic game than Sins. If you don't want to get your a$$ handed to you, anyway.

Yes I own AI Wars, what I mean is that AI war is mostly about building ships and surviving waves of attacks right? Also expanding a little, but the base building is limited and very rudimentary.

Correct me if I am wrong, speaking in 4x context.

Just checked this game out. It looks interesting, bu tthe game is somewhat one dimensional, only warfare decides the game. No diplomacy.

It has diplomacy, so what do you mean by no diplomacy? Are you saying the game can only be won Through military force?

I meant if you play against the AI. Perhaps I haven't read enought about the game, but this was my first impression.

There are plenty of diplomatic options playing with the AI.

Unfortunately at the moment, there is no mp.

Really, I have been looking on the game's website but I haven't seen them, are we talking about the same game? I mean this game:

No, he's talking about Distant Worlds. You didn't exactly make clear WHICH game you 'checked out'!

You are right about diplomacy in AI War, it doesn't have any. It's not actually a '4X' at all, it's an RTS, but far from a conventional one. There are certainly a lot of big space battles, true, but the game is decided by strategy, not tactics and is certainly NOT 'one dimensional'. Try the demo.

I second this.
