It looks great. Just remember to rotate it counter-clockwise so the bow is at the top of the image.

What did you use to create it? And, is this the first of a new fleet of ships?

Modeled in Wings3D, then post-worked using layers in Paint Shop Pro. And I was unaware of the facing issue, but that is easily fixed in PSP.

And this is the first of a planned shipset. This one is the explorer, I have already modeled the escort, but have not rendered or post-worked it yet.

Cool. Good luck with the set.

And I notice the red star insignia, is that a reference to the Japanese flag?

Actually it was just a brush I had to make it a little less bland. But the Rising Sun works also.

Here is the escort. Slightly different lighting set up here.

Those look superb. I like the slightly darker colour tone of the frigate.

Think I'm going to rescale the escort a bit...the bridge looks out of proportion to the rest of the ship compared to the frigate and Scout. And I think the darker colors will become the standard.

That is sharp looking... and something I think fits in the SW universe...
I really like that frigate.

I really like the frigate too.

I'll be working on the Destroyer, Cruiser and Capital ships tonight...don't have to work tomorrow, so I can sit up a bit later with it.

And now the destroyer. I must admit I am quite pleased with the results I got on this one.

Awesome stuff, Shark7!

Just think how useful all these new shipsets will come in with the expansion!

OK, now for some serious questions before I resume building the ultimate shipset of doom here.

1. Besides the lights and engines and orientation things, is there anything else I need to know concerning the .pngs themselves to get them into the game?

2. Will the scale at which I render the images have any bearing at all on how they are scaled in game? If so, then I will do a little re-rendering to get them proportional to each other.

Transparent backgrounds.

While the previews here are .jpgs, the real images are already alpha-channeled, transparent .pngs. Forums here don't seem to like .pngs for some reason.

A quick question for you Shark, it looks like you are using white dots instead of yellow dots for the lights.  Is that just my eyes going funny or does this work?  I have had some problems with the yellow dots you see

As for your question, as far as I know thats all you need to know, your ships look really good btw, especially love the stations!

The dots are pure yellow...I'm guessing they aren't converting over to .jpg images too well. In fact, the .pngs do look a lot sharper and more detailed than these.

It doesn't make any difference what size images you use. I generally go with 500x500, but say I put a 400x400 ship in the same shipset, it won't make any difference.

The game scales the ships according to a particular method. You probably read my post earlier today about scaling ships and bases of a certain shape? Square or circular ships are scaled smaller than long, cigar shaped ships. You might notice, for example, your construction ship will look slightly smaller than another ship of the same size.

Keep up the good work, Shark7.
