Hi all,

Have you seen Interdictions in your games when using WitE v1.03 BETA6?

BTW, in v1.03 BETA6 the Interdiction can now target both normal and rail movement of the enemy!

quote:

ORIGINAL: Andrew Loveridge

V1.03 Beta 6 – February 20, 2011
    New Features and Rule Changes

      5. Introduced a new kind of battle called Interdiction that can be shown on the
Commander’s report list of battles and also as on map battle sites. Friendly
interdiction attacks are not cleared at the start of the logistics phase, so you can now
view the interdiction attacks that occurred during your opponent’s turn.

      6. Added more factors to the interdiction attack routine, such as terrain, range to the
supplied enemy, unit average experience, unit size and a morale roll.

Yep, I took almost 3600 casualties in 1 turn from it.

That was across my entire front

Yes! The enemy's at least hammer me hard. BTW before there was a tendency that airbases were the units most often hit, with other units very seldom attacked. I have an impression that this have changed now, and all units are liable to be attacked equally often. I have no hard numbers, it's just a feeling.

Absolutely...my experience is that scale and intensity of interdictions seems to be much higher. Can attest that it makes life difficult for Sovs attempting to open pockets - you think you have enough MPs to get there but interdiction can cut that short very often.

IMO there should be no Soviet interdiction during the first turn of the GC.

There should be no Soviet Interdiction on the 1st turn if you took out their airfields first.

Hmm, my first taste was attempting to move an PzHQ closer to the front. The HQ was interdicted by 7 IL4s which were in turn intercepted by 22 Axis fighters and a whole boatload of AA who couldn't, or wouldn't, shoot down any of the bombers. The IL4s proceed to destroy 1174 men, 43 artillery pieces and 4 AFVs. Now that's some nifty flying lol.

Detection level affects the chance of interdiction, so friendly units that begin the turn adjacent to the enemy are more liable to be attacked.

Yes, Interdiction is really brutal now! And it takes place at rather long ranges, I have had units moving about at least 10 hexes behind the front that get hit.

4 hits on 1 unit is my record so far

My Russians can take it and more. Just looking forward to interdiction in '44

I guess the flak SUs might be worth adding to combat units and not just AB HQs.

Yes, I flew many interdiction missions against the Soviet first turn. Didn't really track the losses as I was really just practicing Axis first moves. But it was WAY more than ever before. It was really about the first time I'd really seen interdiction at all.

I'm excited to be seeing interdictions now taking place against both sides but I think it may need some more work.  On turn two I took several interdiction attacks, most of which killed 100-200 which seems perfectly acceptable.  Against my mobile divisions things seems to get screwy.  On two attacks against the 36th mobile and Das Reich I suffered massive damage.  With 36th MD, 25 SB-2's killed 1404 men and 13 art.  Das Reich took casualties of 1621 men and 33 art with 24 IL-4's attacking.  This is during the week of 6/26/1941!

I'm seeing some weirdness with interdiction; I have my bombers flying just night missions, so my interdiction attacks just have fighters flying circles around enemy ground units.   It's not necessarily a programming fault, but a result of my odd air campaign.  My simple fix is to just reset fighter escorts on interdictions to 0%.

I have seen some interdiction attacks that I thought they were using mini-nukes on me. I had 8 IL4 inflict 1700 casualties on one of my div. I think it might be a little overpowered. LOL

Yeah, I've been a little worried about those levels of casualties in my games. If it's like that in Summer '41, what's Fall '44 going to be like when it's possibly hundreds of planes? Yowwcchhh.....

After a few turns now (playing the Soviets) I am starting to feel like the Germans in Normandy iin 1944! It's almost like nobodyy can take a step on the road without getting hit!

In the first turns it is normal that the Russian player feels like that given the enormous superiority of the luftwaffe. What is not normal is that it happens on the contrary in these dates. It seems that the Russian air force has a great power in the interceptions of the first turns.

Is not it a bit over his real possibilities (as it was his condition in June 1941) to obtain at the beginning of July a result as this one? That type of checkup can use the game to limit him a bit in this area?

Regards

I should have added, this is in september 1942, so not due to any initial german advantage. I am aware that the Luftwaffe was very effecive even in 1942, but there still seems to be a bit too much interdiction to me.

I had one Airbase get attacked 3 times in one move. No losses on either side though. They do seem to love to attack Air bases and HQ units. I have started to assign Flak units with HQ's

I really like the improved interdiction activity. I am now assigning flak units to all HQs, ABs and mobile units. This has made a difference positive difference for my units.

Is this being looked at?

I am playing turn 2 of my first campaign and I had 2 incidents where I lost over 2000 casualties from <20 bombers. In one case I was moving a mot regiment 1 hex to rejoin it with the other 2 and it lost 50% of it's strength.

This is the turn after their airforce was devastated, what's going to happen later?!?
