I see I can have more pilots than aircraft in a training group. Is there a best ratio of planes to pilots? Maybe 2 pilots to each plane in an air group? The air group can fly twice (morning/afternoon) - right?

In a training group you want max pilots. They all train up at the same speed, and there are no downsides.

I have several groups that arrived with two aircraft and have 50+ pilots. They train up just fine.

Max pilots all the way. Some airgroups will hold more than others. These make great training groups.

Note that you also do not need a full complement of aircraft to train.

I'm not well versed in allied pilot training methods. One question I have regarding training. Is it possible to specifically train pilots for carrier operations?

You can take a carrier-capable group and operate it from a carrier. It can eventually become carrier-trained. Note that has nothing to do with the pilot skill sets. You still have to train them the regular way.

Here's a stupid question you might be able to answer for me. If a carrier capable squadron is put on a CV it will eventually become carrier trained. If you put and leave a carrier trained squadron on the beach , will it degrade to carrier capable?

Never seen it. Can't say no for sure but it's doubtful.

Thanks guys, for all of the feedback.

It seems weird to have 36 pilots and 2 planes though - lol.

It's good to know that the number of planes won't affect pilot training.

I think I'll keep at least one plane to 2 pilots (kind of a flyboy version of hot-bunking).

Actually there is somewhere (on main forum?) test topic about training speed, and it actually seems, that not enough planes will reduce speed of training (but only by around 10-20%).

I have groups with ZERO planes (as number, not Japanese fighter model), and pilots seems to train just fine. So, load them to full.

If you have ever been to a pilot training school, the ratio of pilots to planes is always high, like 10:1 ... the planes fly constantly all day. Each student has an hour or two every other day or so. Rest of time is in class room. So, the game is modeling the ac requirements quite accurately.

It's actually possible to train pilots without any planes at all.

Many times I have checked on the status of Chinese pilots in squadrons with zero planes and they seem to be getting skill gains on a regular basis despite the lack of planes.

Perhaps the rate of traing is slower as inqiustor points out, but those Chinese pilots seem to do fine with chalk talk and simulators alone.
