Could you post a screenshot of the exact error message please?

Did you install all the required components during installation (DirectX, .NET, XNA) or did you uncheck any of those?

Could you post a DxDiag for us please?

Regards,

- Erik

Hi Eric,
I did install all the required components during installation. I even went so far as to unistall game and reinstall.
How can I post a screenshot of this error. I have tried right clicking to copy and paste but am finding it useless. Also I followed your last post about the procedure for posting Dxdiag. I tried this but cannot find "run" option. So I typed in "run" then typed in "dxdiag" and get a much shorter version then the one your previous costomer posted.
Thanks

Hi Whako,

Try Control-PrintScreen and then open Windows Paint (or even better Paint.Net or Gimp if you have it) and Edit->Paste, then save to one of the formats the forum likes.

For the DxDiag you put the Run into the text box that appears just above the "Start" button when you click it. Let DxDiag finish (there will be a progress bar), then Save All Information and post it here.

Regards,

- Erik

Thanks, your system looks great in terms of specs and performance. Your audio drivers are out of date though - could you try updating those please? Looks like an integrated Realtek audio chipset, so you can likely get the latest from your system manufacturer or the motherboard manufacturer.

That screenshot would also be very helpful, or just a post with the exact text of the error message if possible.

Finally, please try turning off any anti-virus/security software to see if that may be interfering.

Regards,

- Erik

Hi Eric,
I just tried getting new drivers for my integrated realtech audio chipset and windows said current drivers are up to date. I went into Device manager for that information.

Hi Whako,

Windows will not help you with that, you'll need to check with either whoever built the computer or whoever made the motherboard. Looks like that would be Acer in your case. Looks like this is the right spot, just put in your model (Aspire 5400) and download the latest audio drivers.

This problem is mentioned on a Microsoft help thread I found. They recommend a few things: disabling antivirus software and firewalls, reinstalling .NET 3.5, disabling UAC, scanning your system for malware (there is a malware program called "Additional Guard" that apparently can cause this problem), and turning off any other background programs.

Well this is frustrating. Your tech customer support has been emailing me but I have tried all of the above and don't know what else they can do to resolve the problem. If I purchased a hard copy do you think this would have any different outcome?
thanks

Hi Whako,

A physical copy would not make a difference. This is something specific to your system. Did you try disabling all anti-virus/security software and Eric's recommendations above? I'd rather you pursue this with us here as our tech support will be able to give less specific help than Eric.

Regards,

- Erik

Hi EriK,
"This is something specific to your system." Highly doubtful. I just paid a computer tech with a masters in Computer science $125/hr to try everything under the sun to get this game running. Sorry this is a programming issue. After 2hrs of fun I decided to pull the plug.
"Did you try disabling all anti-virus/security software and Eric's recommendations above?" Yes all of Erics recommendations above and then some. Again this is a programming issue not my PC.
"I'd rather you pursue this with us here as our tech support will be able to give less specific help than Eric." I have now reached my limit of downloading the game due to too many uninstall/reinstalls of COH and cannot go any further even if your tech support does get back to me.
I may need your help on that one for I cannot try anything without reinstalling the game again. Also has there been any issues Erik that you know of with 64bit and 32bit operating system.

Regards,
Whako

Yikes! We certainly did not ask you to spend that kind of money. I figured we would just pursue this further via the forum at no charge.

What anti-virus/security software do you have?

I'm not sure I follow on this. First, I'd be happy to send you another link, but as long as you download the installation file once, you just need to keep it and run it again if you want to reinstall. So one dowload = as many uninstalls/reinstalls as you want as long as you don't delete the file.

No issues that we are aware of - this kind of error is usually due to some kind of corrupt .NET installation or third party software interfering with the game. If you e-mail me your order number to erikr@matrixgames.com I'll get the store to send you a new download link. If you were logged into our site when you purchased, you can also request a new download link automatically through the Members Club.

Regards,

Hi Erik,
Yes unfortunately It was an after 6 phone call which translates into an after hours service call at a 2hr min. Oh well had to be sure right. Btw I have Net 4.0 and Microsoft Security Essentials which were all turned off and we did scans for Malware, viruses, many reboots, run admin, disabling UAC, closing all background progams, ect ect.
Thanks

This error is most likely happening because a .NET routine is looking for another .NET component in the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) and not finding it.

To see whether your GAC has the proper component file, please look in your assembly directory, most likely located in Windows\assembly. When you view these files there should be a column labeled "Public Key Token." Please verify that you have files with the Key Token b77a5c561934e089; I believe the particular file we are looking for in this case is System.Xml, Version 2.0.0.0. Since Xml serialization changed between .NET 3.5 and .NET 4.0, if you've only installed .NET 4.0, or if .NET 3.5 did not install completely, this system file may not be present in your assembly folder.

If the proper files are installed in this directory, then either they are not loading properly (and we should be able to test for this), or something is preventing the call to them (typically this is a virus or antivirus type program, or a security type setting).

Something else to verify. Please look in this folder:

Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727

And check the file version of the file:

System.XML.dll

It should be version 2.0.50727.4016.

After that we could check Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG\machine.config (it's an XML file, should load in any vanilla text editor.)

There should be a section that looks something like this:

<sectionGroup name="system.xml.serialization" type="System.Xml.Serialization.Configuration.SerializationSectionGroup, System.Xml, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089">
<section name="schemaImporterExtensions" type="System.Xml.Serialization.Configuration.SchemaImporterExtensionsSection, System.Xml, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089"/>
<section name="dateTimeSerialization" type="System.Xml.Serialization.Configuration.DateTimeSerializationSection, System.Xml, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089"/>
<section name="xmlSerializer" type="System.Xml.Serialization.Configuration.XmlSerializerSection, System.Xml, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" requirePermission="false"/>
</sectionGroup>

If I understand correctly, this is the configuration section that tells the Global Assembly Cache where to look for XML serialization libraries.

The 'repair' function is the correct button to press. I think it's confusing too but that's a Microsoft issue. I have my game installed on E and windows is on C so that shouldn't be the issue.

It should install to F drive without any problems.

I can't find a record of a .NET update that ends in 3087. When you see an exception like the one whako got:

quote:

Exception
Could not load file or assembly "0 bytes loaded from System,Version=2.0.0.0
Culture=neutral,PublicKey Token=b77a5c561934e089' or one of its dependencies.
An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. at System.Reflection.Assembly.Load(

at
Microsoft,CSharp.CSharpCodeGenerator.FromFileBatch(ComplianceParameters optins,String[] sources)
at
Microsoft.CSharp.CSharpCodeGeneraton.System.CodeDom.Complier.]CodeComplier.Compile AssemblyFromSourceB

Does it have the same Token number as listed above and Version number, or something else?

I read one blog that recommended trying uninstalling .NET and reinstalling (rather than repairing) for solving errors like this.

Hi Ericbabe,
I found the column labeled "public key token" and I can confirm that System.Xml version 2.0.0.0 b77a5c561934e089 is present.

Hi Ericbabe,
I got to the fileSystem.XML.dll but could not go any further as dont think I have a program dl that will open that extension. Sorry I could not verify that 2.0.50727.4016

Another suggestion from Microsoft is that csc.exe is being prevented from running. One recommendation is to check this registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options
and also
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\DisallowRun

If csc.exe is listed in either one of these locations, try to remove it.

I haven't found a good way yet to have you verify whether csc.exe runs during initialization. I can see it briefly in Process Explorer and under processes in Task Manager when "Conflict of Heroes" is loading, but I'm not sure whether this test would be reproducible on your systems. I will continue to investigate this.
