I don't know what you did, but it sure has all get out has fouled this game up now but good!

I am losing two ships a day to G4M and G3M torpedo attack on ships IN PORT in Australia. At this rate, there won't be a need for Kamikazes, the IJN can sink the whole USN fleet before it ever puts to sea! Not only that, but the IJAAF has slaughtered the AF in Port Morseby - 67 fighters in the first raid, another 18 ( of 23 left) in the second. This has gone from being fun to watchint sheep get castrated.

What difficulty level are you playing on?

Is FOW on?

What scenario and month are you talking about?

Inigo asks some good questions. Also, why not put some CAP over your Australian airfields and ports? That should put a stop to Betty raids - they can get there only without escort (unless your opponent has Gili Gili or some such).

Air battles certainly could go poorly before and I had some similar experiences in earlier version of UV when hit with a very large, heavily escorted and well-rested IJN raid at PM. If it was an Airfield Attack, some of the losses could be on the ground as well, check the Intel screen.

Regards,

- Erik

Difficulty: Historical
Fog of War: On (of course)
check with AC losses on Intel Screen - 75 claimed (from combat reps) showing 58 actual losses of P39 & P40 in one day. In addition, that raid had three (count'em) NELLS who managed to put a torpedo into Hobart in port.

Same day in Cairns, one AK serverely damaged by torp by G4M and two MS hit, one sunk. DD attacked but not hit.

This is the fourth of fifth time that G3M and G4M have raided Aussie ports and have had hits every raid with torpedos in past week or so game time that IJAF has been spectaculary successful

And another thing!! I had four TF's in the vicinity of the Canal - three of them had LRCAP then ran out of assets. The only TF hit by anything other than stiff breezes was the only TF w/o LRCAP - and this has happened consistently throughout almost six months of game playing in all versions. I wrote this off as a shrug to the AI, but now that AI can cripple ships in port at will, with unescorted raids and wreak holy havoc with escorted raids, I have to wonder if the game bias has not been changed a little too much. And these are not to be compared to the raids on Darwin - that was a combined attack by VT and VB craft - these are land based bombers by themselve in miniscule numbers (3-11 AC) The only thing that tells me is that the IJ has a problem with bomber production - but I knew that anyway.

I have had CAP up in Aussie Ports since first raid. P-39D and Whirraway's - P-39's ought to be able to really put a hurt on Betty's with a 37mm - if the thing shoots.

When I have CAP over ports, raids are very rare. Only once did the BettyBoops attack (8 Bettys vs 7 Wirraways...about 50% intercept, no kills) and they sank an SC. I've no real problem here, I'd just like to see the Worrywarts get just 1 kill.;)

I do find the air combat a little too deadly, it seems that the a/c which try to break off engagement are getting slaughtered despite their intent.

Hi, I have been hit many times when I forget to put the CAP up.
When I remember the Betty/Nell raids never come.
Bomber groups will abort missions if enemy CAP present and they have no escorts (too few escorts)

It does not seem to matter what aircraft are flying CAP
Wirraways will abort unescorted missions the same as P-40
(bombers only count the number not the type)

RevRick,

We've been checking into things - have a look at Dave's latest post. Suggest you get 2.11 when it's released, the results you were seeing may have been due to a last minute bug that slipped through our net.

Regards,

- Erik

I have to say that I really admire the way y'all respond to us. If this was a test bed for WitP, then that is going to be one whale of game with all the input you are getting - both good and bad! And thanks.

In a current PBEM game, I had troops landing at both Lea Lea and PM. LRCAP was first over PM, then Lea Lea. In 4 separate turns, the bombers attacked where the LRCAP wasn't.

What's driving that?

Admiral, I think it's the AI. I think in order to give the computer even half a chance against us, they let the AI see the disposition of our CAP and LRCAP, then determine the best targets. Food for thought, eh?
