I was wondering if they ever did something about the independents in the game. When I last played I was troubled by how the colonies worked. Unless I was extremely lucky I usually(along with the AI)started quite far away from my historical homeworld and it's former colonies. Resulting in some alien empire absorbing them all.

It would have been nice to start in the vicinity of my former empire, perhaps even had the ability to reduce the number of the colonies to ZERO rather than the mandatory ONE minimum. The damage to the immersion is "slightly" mitigated by only having 1 planet being assimilated and renaming the system so that it plays the role of some former out post but it's still a little bit immersion breaking anyways.

Thinking back, there were only 2 occasions out of all the galaxies I generated where I started out amongst my own races colonies. 1 of those times I was lucky enough to get Sol. Which ironically the planet was destroyed by the Shakturi...along with my entire fleet and over half of my empire. All lost to a single ship...lol..

In countless tests, I have never had my own empire start at its ancient homeworld, although I have occasionally seen other empires do so. Some time ago I requested an option to force empires to start at their ancient homeworld, but there was no official response to this request.
