Status: offline 		I did a quick search for acronym and came up empty. Is there a thread, a post, a something with a decoder ring for acronyms. I'm not talking about the military ones so much (I did my 25 years in the Navy), I'm looking for the game specific things.

I think I figured out:

JFB = Japan Fan Boy.

But I see this one a lot and scratch my head:

AFAIK

I imagine there are others.

IMO / IME - in my opinion / in my experience

I use those frequently as a disclaimer, to avoid blame if my post's advices prove wrong-headed.

AV - could refer to land-combat Assault Value, but might refer to a base-hex's Aviation Support, or to a specific Naval Auxiliary ship-type that can provide support / repair / supply to amphibian aircraft.

Sometimes you need a Secret Decoder Ring to figure out the meaning.

OK I'll go there......LYB = Little Yellow illegitimate sons.

This one is decidedly NOT PC (Politically Correct) , but is used to great entertainment value in a certain few threads that parody the Japanese.

I won't point any fingers toward a certain Captain named for a root.

And just figured it out
FAA = Fleet Air Arm (RN carrier squadrons, maybe their search planes).

Status: offline 		One that threw me because the meaning changed is GC. When people started playing the game, a lot of players were playing the small scenarios to learn the ropes and GC referred to the Guadalcanal Campaign. Somewhere along the line it became the acronym for the Grand Campaign. It doesn't look like people play the smaller scenarios as much anymore. (Though they are a good place for new players to start.)

But I have also seen it referred to as "BKB"; I never could figure out if this was just a typo or more Japanese

You compiled a good summation helpful for new folks in this thread, but the thread (or more importantly the list itself) never got "stuck." This might be a good time to resurrect and sticky it (and to add one or two generic internet terms for those folks not as familiar with AFAIK/IIRC, etc.)

FAA was the RN AF and totally separate from the RAF not just PTs. AKA USM and USN
