Do cannons have a bell curve in this game? or is just a fixed range/accuracy/penetration so does a 25mm flak gun shoot with the same effect for at any plane in its range or does a bell Curve come into the mix?

They might have "bands" of capability much like fighters have, but that would require calculations for each weapons system, a daunting task!

Naval guns have complex penetration routines. I cannot find anything about air combat armament though.

Of course you are not going to get any good answers from either a dev or me.

1.  What do you mean by a bell curve.  What is this bell curve supposed to cover.

2.   Is it only aircraft cannon or also flak, both of which are included in the op.  Or is it any "artillery" piece.

Depending on what is actually sought the answers to the question have already been provided by the devs.  I know because I have already spent a considerable amount of time searching the forum and have found many relevant, depending on what exactly is sought, posts from devs.  If I can find them then any one too can find them.

Besides which, why is it even relevant to know.  How exactly would you alter your play if armed with this knowledge.

As it has been posed, one gets the very strong impression that the OP is wanting to know specific details on the algorithms.  The devs will never provide details which allow for reverse engineering the algorithms.  And even if they did, I come back to my previous question, how would this knowledge alter the OP play.  For it is not something which is amenable to player input.

Based upon what we know and have been told about how many, many, other things are implemented in the game, a best guess is that the core routines do add in some additional randomness. Whether they do that in a strictly bell curve-like way would also be guesswork.

But that's just an educated guess. As Alfred points out, what are you really looking for?

Thx everyone for there information, was just wanting to know a bit about the Flak system used, sample a 25mm AA gun has a max height range of 7,000ft(just a guess)is this gun more effective at say 3,000ft and less so at its max height of 7,000ft hence my use of the bell curve expression.
(Flak guns have "ceiling" numbers: some can't shoot at planes at the in-coming altitude, but can shoot at planes at the delivery altitude. And "ceiling" has effectiveness bands; top third is hard, next third is nominal, bottom third sucks)
I did look at the links thx again. ships would have something the same I suppose.

Post no. 62 by JWE speaks about the max ceiling here

http://www.matrixgames.com/FORUMS/tm.asp?m=2456696&mpage=3&key=

It seems there is some variation to the max ceiling of flak guns.
