Is the manual in "Pike and Shot: Campaigns" the same as the one in the base game "Pike and Shot"?

Can you play "Campaigns" with the "Pike and Shot" (first game) manual and manage the campaigns? Is the last chapter on campaigns have alot of information? I'm thinking about buying the digital (download) version of "Campaigns" and save some money. Thanks!
