Is it the intention of the game (PBEM 1939) that Allied Destroyers (10str/lv0) cause zero damage when attacking vs German Subs (10str/lv 0) in stormy weather?

I second that!

For my taste destroyers are too weak. The last patches changed the dive chance to 40% (from 20%) so dealing no or just 1 damage means it takes at least 6 - 8 ships to kill a sub (if it dives two or three times it will get away if you don't have enough ships to spot it again and place "stoppers" around it).

Maybe I'm too stupid but for me it feels as if three subs and a few big surface ships can keep the whole Royal Navy busy. Not just busy, you can even sink many ships because it takes too long to hunt down a sub.

Current PBEM 1939 game 10 Allied destroyer (lv 0) attacks on German subs (lv 0) in stormy weather. 0 German Sub casualties 3 Destroyer Casualties. One might say why do keep attacking then?

I feel you, but remember you are also driving the supply and morale level down

In my game (which is on my opponent's youtube channel), I sent all my starting DDs (including the French) and still couldn't kill 1 sub through both storms and clear weather.

When I hit equal researched subs with destroyers 10 times with no causalities it just doesn't seem quite right.

As tech goes up, even at matching levels, it starts tilting in the Destroyers' favor

I am currently playing a campaign against a human who unleashed his subs in 39-40 against the British navy in their ports. The Germans success rate was about 75% in inflicting damage & actually
sank a carrier with 50% damage & yet the Destroyers had virtually no effect...(most dived away)

Yes, I have noticed this too. I was surprised, but U-Boats can successfully attack and sink Allied carriers and battleships in port while taking minimal losses.

Changes were made to sub vs destroyer warfare in v 1.12 that made the subs to strong. The guys who play the Axis think its a great idea. Look at using motor torpedo boats (most effective vs sub even in port) and maritime bombers both are cheap and will kick the crap out of the clown attacking you in your British ports. Also be sure to research anti sub warfare early.

good luck
