Other than fighters and AA..is there any other way to give them a defense? In my last game I had to deal with most of the RN in the Mediterranean pretty much sealing the fate of all my Africa plans.

Or do you mean be is shelling them directly? That gets expensive because the ships will take some damage and can't repair beyond str 8 unless they go home to England.
