This is for some of us real old guys who board gamed in the 70’s and 80’s and remember SPI games.

At the Historicon convention this year (July 12-15) the invited special guests will be some of the SPI guys.

Jim Dunnigan one of the designers of War in the Pacific (1978) slould to be there.

Also, Albert A. Nofi who wrote the book:
To Train the Fleet for War: The U.S. Navy's Fleet Problems, 1923-1940
http://www.navyhistory.org/2011/09/book-review-to-train-the-fleet-for-war-the-u-s-navy-fleet-problems-1923-1940/

So, if you happen to be around Lancaster, PA at that time I think those would be interesting people to meet and lectures to attend.

If you have Nofi’s book (Anyone interested in the interwar US Navy should have it) you may be able to get him to autograph it for you.

Alas, I will not be in the neighbourhood.

One of the best books I have on WWII is "Victory at Sea" by Dunnigan and Nofi.

At one time I owned most all of the SPI titles.

Wonderful classics no doubt. Is there going to be any presentations at historicon this summer? Love to help out. Always enjoy historicon. Would be nice to show off an MP game of sorts?

What about the old farts who were into Avalon Hill in the late fifties?

I subscribed to S&T magazine after I DEROS'd in the mid seventies..
Knew Jim Dunnigan in those days, and John Hill, (designed a nifty little game called "HUE"...and he was in that city/battle during Tet in '68.
Later, John worked on Terrible Swift Sword...(after he sold his hobby shop/game store in Lafayette.)

Not quite that old, late '60's.

Great game, still have it somewhere.

I was not around in the late 50s but I still classify as an old fart....or at least I smell like one.

I worked in a game store and sold the games. Had a collection as well. Lost most in a move. No space and haven't opened them in years and so I tossed them. Bonehead maneuver number 3,476. I still have my copy of Victory at Sea.

I am now married and have children, so no chance of getting there. I even had a place on the USS Constitution when she made a trip around Boston Harbor back in 2010 or 2011 {I won a raffle}. But I could not miss 4th of July with my young daughter. If this had been before marriage I'd have been all over it. Even from California.

Shocking what happens after you get married. I haven't been fishing since 2003. Though I have to say that my wife never tried to discourage me from the Boston trip and wants me to go fishing on our next trip to Maui.

I still have my Avalon Hill Generals and SPI's S&Ts somewhere...along with all my old board wargames. Wife keeps asking why I have them since they're just in boxes. Great question! Every once in a while I open an old game up and take a look, but haven't played one in a long, long time. Maybe when I retire....

Also stumbled on my naval miniatures a few months ago - Yamato still looks impressive has hell!

I don't know who will be at the Historicon war college this year.
They have not posted a list yet.

I was a regular at the convention in the 1990's but have not been back lately.

There is always a great time had by all and I have made some good friends there.

This is a video from 2018. A brief look at the Pearl Harbor game is included.
