I may not be logged in tomorrow and today counts as the observed holiday (due to the 4th being on a Saturday this year) so Happy Independence Day to all in the USA!

Here's a song for you all:

And quite by coincidence I watched the wonderfully clever Hamilton again tonight. Sorry but King George III is still the star of the show

Happy independence day to our US cousins

Happy independence day to our US cousins

Back at you, and, knowing that our British cousins don't have an official Independence Day, I suggest they borrow ours. And I offer this rousing tune to that effect:

https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=rule+britannia&docid=608018415164327995&mid=B88D07F0AA204588D76BB88D07F0AA204588D76B&view=detail&FORM=VIRE

Actually, I'm inspired by a car dealership in my home town that, years ago, was, of course, having a 4th of July sale, and evidently needed some patriotic music for its commercial. In their ignorant bliss, they chose the above! Oh well.

It was a great celebration thanks to the live stream from Mount Rushmore. Independence for all future generations.

Here is a nice song, the words are not usually sung but the song is done as an instrumental:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mRn9chmRAY

quote:

Let martial note in triumph float
And liberty extend its mighty hand
A flag appears ‘mid thunderous cheers,
The banner of the Western land.
The emblem of the brave and true
Its folds protect no tyrant crew;
The red and white and starry blue
Is freedom’s shield and hope.

Other nations may deem their flags the best
And cheer them with fervid elation
But the flag of the North and South and West
Is the flag of flags, the flag of Freedom’s nation.

Hurrah for the flag of the free!
May it wave as our standard forever,
The gem of the land and the sea,
The banner of the right.
Let despots remember the day
When our fathers with mighty endeavor
Proclaimed as they marched to the fray
That by their might and by their right
It waves forever.

Let eagle shriek from lofty peak
The never-ending watchword of our land;
Let summer breeze waft through the trees
The echo of the chorus grand.
Sing out for liberty and light,
Sing out for freedom and the right.
Sing out for Union and its might,
O patriotic sons.

Other nations may deem their flags the best
And cheer them with fervid elation,
But the flag of the North and South and West
Is the flag of flags, the flag of Freedom’s nation.

Hurrah for the flag of the free.
May it wave as our standard forever
The gem of the land and the sea,
The banner of the right.
Let despots remember the day
When our fathers with mighty endeavor
Proclaimed as they marched to the fray,
That by their might and by their right
It waves forever.

It's only six o'clock in the morning here and some pyromaniac is already detonating his personal stock of munitions out in the street.

Then there was that M80 that went off at 3:15 AM. Geez.

Happy Fourth of July. I hope I survive the evening.

+1

Besides, you won't get too many fish with an M80. A du Pont spinner will get you more if they are there - whether or not the fish are biting. Or a hand grenade.
