Just heard it on the radio. Didn't know he was battling Alzheimers.

Without hijacking the thread, William Westmoreland died yesterday. I was actually a little surprised not to see this mentioned somewhere on the forum.

Good article about a man I have very luke-warm feelings about.

Jeez... This sucks.

But, Star Trek will not die, and through that, in a way, he and the rest will live forever.

Yeah as a stereotypical image of a Scottish engineer.

Couldn't have said it better if I tried Nik... Was saddened to hear of his passing, but his last year or two were riddled with illness, and to borrow the cliche's of the show, life has a way of "beaming you up" when the engines aren't exactly "running on all thrusters" any longer.

He'll be missed, but between memorable lines like...

"Its ahhh, its ahhh, its green..."

and of course...

"They said the Enterprise was a GARBAGE SCOW! Sir..." Etc...

Fair winds indeed James "Scotty" Doohan... We'll come have a pint with ya on shore leave when our own ships bell tolls...

"Ding, ding... Ding, ding..."

Very said, I will never forget an interview I watched with him once whear the interviwer asked him what Star Treck had ment to him in his life, he just smiled and said: "Star Treck Was the cream in the Coffe", He went on to say he was alwyas very moved by all the fans who wrote him letters saying that because of watching him as kids they went on to become Engineres and did great things, this he heard all the time....All of them and of course the show and it's decendents will live on for a very long time, I am of course a fan, I like them all, I remember a friend of mine from my school days had this lamaneted Picture of Picard he had stuck to the dash board of this car we used to take 4 whealing in the sticks and he would always put his hand on Picards picks before we took off to try and role the rig, nothing bad would hapen to us as long as Picard is with us, he would say, Scotty may be gone from this earth but he as mentioned above will live on in spirit for a very long time indead.

Apparently his ashes are going to be released in space.

I'm sure well all abmired his work.

Many people have confessed that they are engineers today because of James Doohan's performances on Star Trek.

I'm proud to say that Scotty was in fact one of the main reasons I became a engineer.
One of Mr. Scott's best lines was "a starship is nothing with out its engines".
I really did become a rocket liquid propulsion systems engineer.

I met James at a Star Trek Con back in the mid 1980's, and when I told him about his role in my deciding to become an engineer, he told me that he had heard that story many hundreds of times over the years.
I truely think he was responsible for a whole generation of new engineers.

I dug out a 50 year old bottle of single malt Scotch last evening.
My wife and I toasted James, as we promised to do years ago, when we heard of his passing.

I think it is very fitting that his family is going to honor his request, to have his remains launched into space.

Regards, Gregg

Klingon: ... and if I think that Kirk is a Denibian slime devil, well, that's my opinion....

Crewman (to Scotty): You heard what he called the captain.

Scotty: Forget it. It's not worth fighting for. We're big enough to take a few insults. Now, drink your drink.

Klingon: I'd say that Captain Kirk deserves his ship. We like the Enterprise. We -- we really do. That sagging old rust bucket is designed like a garbage scow. Half the quadrant knows it. That's where they're learning to speak Klingonese.

Scotty: Laddie, don't you think you should rephrase that?

Klingon: You're right. I should. I didn't mean to say that the Enterprise should be hauling garbage. I meant to say that it should be hauled away as garbage.

Scotty: (throws the first punch)
