hey guys

i know ive had a lot of these types of posts l8ly

but this is about fans, and not squeaking or glass

so neway
i saw this fan at newegg.com which is wher most of the parts for my computer came from

all of em except the HD i think

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811999612

80+ CFM of air moved by an 80 MM

i think im gonna replace all or most of my remaining 6 fans with these

any advice as to other fans?

the current temp of my computer is about 141 fahrenheit

i hope to reduce that by 50%

but, i DO NOT intend to try water cooling

i think to do that u need a level of expertise that i do NOT have

maybe l8r tho, as im thinkin about becoming a computer hardware technician and maybe getting a degree in computer science

6 fans? 141 degrees F? one or two in the front suck air in/cool your hard disks, one or two in the back exhausting along with your power supply fan. Anything more than that and it's basicaly counterproductive, runs up your electric bill and stresses out your power supply. As for your 141 degree temp, that's way too hot unless you have an Intel. Do yourself a favor, ditch some fans and get an AMD based computer.

and i have a 400W poer supply

and i can always get a bigger 1

plus the cabling is a mess so thats not really helping the airflow

I have a winchester cored 3000+, it runs at 115 degress F playing WitP or any other game. I know a ton of others who have similar computers and they all run around the same ( low 40s C under load) If I were you, instead of worrying about the fans and clean up the messy wires. Do you have SATA drives? if not, replace your ribbons with round cables.

Get a Volcano Heatsink and Fan...I cooled my Athlon Thunderbird and if it can do that, it can probably cool anything.

case cooling has an effect on your cpu temps, but if your heatsink/fan isn't good enough you are asking for trouble. Some folks prefer the Zalman:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Submit=browse&Manufactory=1647&Category=11

I don't really have an opinion on brand, except that you want an acceptable air flow to noise ratio. One thing I do have an opinion on is that Newegg is the place to shop, good luck.

you have to understand that heatsink/fans are platform specific, in that example you linked, look at the compatability, it won't work with your proc, Marky.

Whatever you do, don't try to save money by going generic. With computer products, you get what you pay for . I learned that the hard way with cheap RAM 2 years ago. It's name brand RAM for me sir!

o

does ne1 have or use or has used adaptors so they can use larger 90 or 120mm fans in place of 60 or 80mm fans?

2 80mm on front and 2 on back for me, and things are just peachy. My CPU heatsink is a Coolermaster 7 or soemthing like that. The one that is kind big, has the sideways flat bladed fan with a copper heatsink. It works excellent.

I agree with whoever said more than 2 or 4 fans is overkill, since you'll make the powersupply overwork and do more harm than good.
