PBS in Nashville running a special on the last mission of the Yamato. Looks OK so far with interviews from two Japanese survivors and American pilots. Should be coming to your local PBS station if you are in the states.....terry

A nice doc on the Yamato! Check out http://www.pbs.org/ for more info on the Yamato and the making of the film.

I didnt realize that there are no plans for the Yamato. It was such a secret project that very few saw the entire plan. Most people just saw their little part of it. That was news to me.

I found it rather disappointing. What was the point?
To discuss the ship's technical details? Nope, their deepest analysis was a simplified overview of the bulbous bow.
To give the ship's career history? Nope, and they sure couldn't have made an hour show from that anyway.
To show wreck photos? Nope, they hardly showed us anything from the wreck.
The only segments of value were the short bits of interviews with folks who were "there." This sort of stuff is always golden, but there was very little of it.
Looking back, I'm not sure how they filled 50 minutes with so little.

Quite typical of such shows sadly.. but it's catering to the crowds..

Better pics at http://www.warship.get.net.pl/Japonia/Battleships/1941_Yamato_class/Wreck/_Yamato_wreck_02.html, including a nice diorama of the wreck site. Sheesh! That must've one heck of an explosion!

Steve.
