If it was red, then that would also support Japanese. The bomb is most likely a 30kg GP as you said. The contruction of it is definitely Japanese. Also note the style of pants the man is wearing. They appear to be baggy, Japanese style and possibly tied with a cloth belt. Certainly not US issue. Chez
