Anyone know how well 6 DMS will protect a bombardment TF from a mine field?

Probably pretty well ... especially since bombardment TFs almost never hit mines to begin with !

Ummm they do hit its just not as much as LCT's on an amphib assault.

They have the same chance to strike a mine as any TF in a hex with a minefield more so if DD's are ordered to bombard as well (although my evidence is anecdotal on this point)

If you pick option: DD's or escorts bombard as well.......then the Bombardment TF closes the shore to bring the escorts guns in range and possibly hit the minefield. If you just have BB's do it,they are miles out to sea and very safe!

One snag with 'escort bombard' the DMS units will engage too and might well get clobbered by CD fire !

I've NEVER seen a bombardment TF, with escort option off, hit a mine.
Even with thousands of them there.

Yet they can zoom in at night, hit the airfield and disable squads at a location they can't see, from 20 miles away? Yeah right.

I had several CAs and BBs damaged (minor to heavy damage) by mines while bombarding Tarawa (no escorts bombarding) in my game against Wolfpack. Wolfpack said there were a couple of thousand mines there.

Good die rolls!

I wonder what the experience levels of mines are?
