Second question pertaining to my campaign with Moses. We have reached January 15, 1943 and I have CS Chitose in Osaka for conversion to CVL. How do I do that? No button has appeared to do it on the ship page. I have made sure that the toggle 'all ships upgrade' is on. What else should I do?

Thanks!

It's supposed to happen automagically. Just have it in Osaka, and the program takes care of it...

It is January 15, 1943. I will give it some more time. I have it disbanded and sitting in the port. We'll see...

What happens to the float planes when the CS's are converted to CVL's? I can see that if they are on board they will vanish but what happens if they are left behind at Truk as the CS converts in Osaka? Or do the float plane chutai's turn into the CVL's airgroup and need to be onboard for this to happen?

These special ship conversions happen automatically.
The ship needs to be disbanded in Osaka, and on the last day of the month's turn, the conversion will take place.
The check only appears to be done at the end of each month after Dec'42 according to my tests.

IIRC, the first test is performed on the 31Dec42's turn.

Transfer them to a base beforehand and it is not an issue.

Thank you for the advice. The CS entered port about January 3rd so I will see at the end of the month. I will transfer her aircraft and use them for fiendish purposes!

yes. thanks a lot.
as I have checked the editor, there are no new air groups coming for these ships and existing are not upgraded to different types. How do you use these ships? Is it worth to upgrade them at all? I expect they can not use float planes any more and their capacity (24 or 20 - I´m not sure now) is not suitable for land based daitai at full strenght.
btw there is 1 AV ship with 1 AC capacity coming early in war (forgot the name - Akitsuki Maru or something like that). IRL this ship was build to carry a 1 x H6K that was operated by crane, but in game, there is no H6K aboard, so what use has this ship except usual 10 AV support? I´m just afraid that I´m missing something..

Yesterday my oponent agreed that once he will kick my ass in our current game, we will star new one and the the float planes carriers can be armed with RUFEs (it costs me lots of beers ). That is the only use I can find for these aircrafts..
I have checked a few sources, but didn´t find any evidence that they were used this way, but also didn´t find why..
I know Japan used PETEs and JAKEs in CAP during operations in SRA. I think that F1M shot down some P-36 during PI invasion. The game doesn´t allow this so RUFE is a logical choice (unhistorical I know) and was lucky that my oponent agreed. I always enjoyed those float planes air combats and missed them a lot..

Keep in mind that a carrier can launch while carrying up to 115% of it's capacity. For 24 that would 27 max and for 20 that would be 23 aircraft.

Pretty sure as CVLs their capacity is 30 (x115%=34; plenty of space on board)....

You can overload them but be very careful. One plane too many and none of them will fly. Ouchie.
