How does the support movement thing really work? I’m sure I’m faithfully following the manual on this –select unit, move cursor to adjacent province, hit “s”-, and I’m getting the dashed arrow, but when the turn starts the unit moves battle or no battle. Also, if I issue and additional support order I get another dashed arrow from the first supported province to the second, but not from the original province. I have an army in Burgundy and want it to support either Lorraine or Switzerland, but I can’t find a way to make it wait in Burgundy until there is a battle in any of the two provinces.

BTW, still no way of refusing to reinforce an ally. The Spanish army is effectively defending Austria from my armies. They are parked in Piedmont while the Austrians and Russian are concentrated in Tyrol, but if I dare advance to Switzerland the Spaniards attack Tyrol and ask for my help, putting me, win or lose, out of supply. If we win, they advance further and ask again for help, and my recruits are again hungry in the snow. The worst thing is that if you send two or three division to Switzerland the Spaniards don’t advance, but if your send the whole army…

Support move doesn't wait for a battle, it waits for any friendly units.

Thanks Eric, it makes sence now. I was sending them to a province where I already had troops.

How is support then different from a normal movement order, the supporting unit only moves if a friendly unit moves to the province? What about a second support order: does the unit continues to the second province if there is a frienly unit there?

It makes a lot of sence the way it's in the manual, it's a pity it doesn't work that way.
