Loaded original game seems fine but the NEW CHS art seems to have taken over ??

Download "Modselect" from Andys site and you will have no problems.

When working with my old computer with a nice, friendly XP OS, I created a second WitP in a sub-folder labeled CHS and loaded all the files using AB's extraction utility and never had any problems.

When I purchased a new computer and had to deal with Vista, the extraction utility no longer worked. No problem there either; I just took all of the CHS files and moved them into the CHS WitP sub-folders that already contained the same file names. It took a while and I had a couple of boo-boos to fix (loading a file into the wrong folder does no harm, but it will appear as missing when CHS looks into the correct folder), but it still works fine once I got everything moved.

Now I mention this since I have not looked the extraction process in a while, but I think that you have to move the Map files, the Extended Map files, and the CHS Base files as well as the desired Scenario files. It really doesn't matter if you use the extraction utility or do it manually. If you do not use a separate CHS folder (strongly recommended) you do need to use the Mod Switch utility.

I am using the mod switch utility

I am windows XP

If I select number 4 = normal revised map and chs oob etc - I get extended map ( I think ) withall CHS stuff and all is ok
I assume Aden and Panama hexes are the extended map - right
If I select number 5 = extended map chs oob and art - the scn loads asks me to save then asks me to save after switching sides , it does this all the time and will not load the scn

So whats up ... I suppose as long as I have the extended map and CHS and the scn loads ok its ok I suppose

Selecting the stock map and oob works fine and I can switch betweeen the two BUT I get the CHS art , which is ok as its nice

It's -not- as easy as some folks seem to think it is.  It sounds like you've got it basically working tho.

One other thing I encountered for PBEM was, I had to have my opponent send me his pwhex.dat file.  When we started our game, we were getting replay bugs on every turn.  He sent me his pwhex.dat file, and things have been (mostly) golden since then.  We had one replay bug a few weeks ago, so he sent pwhex.dat again, and all is well.

Good luck!

Actually, re-reading your post, you're still having an issue? If you've got the extended map with art working, it should be good - unless you want to play as Japan against the Allied AI. I think it has trouble reconzing Aden and Panama, which is where a lot of the Allied reinforcements arrive. But if you're Allied vs. Japan AI, or PBEM, it shouldn't matter.
