i have been doing some research on WW2 aircraft and i've been using Francillon's book as the "bible" for the Japanese aircraft.

i also have Janes as another source - but comparing Francillon to Jane's i can see some severe limitations.

Does anyone have suggestions for "bibles" for Allied aircraft?

Books I use for all aircraft (have allowed me to "tweak" for my personal air mod) are:

Aircraft of WWII..Stewart Wilson

Combat Aircraft of the World....John W. R. Taylor

Airliners from 1919 to the Present Day...Kenneth Munson

C47/R4D Skytrain Units of the Pacific and CBI...David Isby

Complete Book of OWRLD WAR TWO COMBAT AIRCRAFT (Barnes & Noble Books-2001)
Angelucci, Matricardi, & Pinto

Has sections on the combat planes built by the Czechs, Poles, Dutch, etc; in addition to the main combatants.

hmmm... i have one or two of these.

i am sensing there isn't a book that one would call The Definitive Source on US and/or British aircraft.

Maybe we should write one!

I do like Coach Zs book, has a nice large illustration for each of the planes.  I only wish it would go into more detail on the different models.  It touches on each one, but leaves you wanting more.

It's probably because no-one feels the need to. Info on Japanese stuff seems to be fairly thin on the ground whereas there's plenty of info on the 'main Western' powers (Axis and Allied)
