It seems, starting in May June 42, US TF can gain quiet often the effect of surprise on a japanese TF.
The benefit of radar is probably an explanation for this gain of advantage.
But is a TF having a bombardment mission more vulnerable to a surprise effect than the same TF having a surface combat mission ?
Are they other factors involved to gain or loose the surprise effect apart from the experience of the crew ?
Thanks for your help in this matter.

common oppinion on the forum is that bombardment TFs are inferior to surface combat TFs when it comes down to naval engagements. Don´t know if that means also that bombardment TFs are more vulnerable to being surprised. From my exp: no, but that´s just my stomache feeling.

I know that last week I had a bombardment TF surprise a surface combat TF - but it was an SC TF that had just finished a couple of rounds of combat with another SC TF. I do believe that they were quite surprised to run into another TF with a pair of BBs...

Not to mention my ships were now very low on ammo after the first two engagements and you had a few CVs waiting in the wings to deal with my remaining ships after your 2nd group of BBs bet up on them.
