Today an Australian serviceman was awarded our country's highest military honour, the Victoria Cross of Australia. for gallantry in Afghanistan. This SAS Trooper is the first serviceman to receive the award in more than forty years. I salute him.

Can you tell us more about him and the circumstances that lead to the award?

Yep I reckon the Oz government doesn't hand them out too freely.

Paine a Viet Vet and the last Australian recipient of the award, if u ever read his citation he was either totally crazy or believe he was superman he save about 40 viet soldiers with his heroics.

I am in amazement at the bravery some people can exhibit in the face of extreme danger.  I don't think words can truthfully describe how good a person he is.

We are fortunate in the free world to have such men who are willing to give all for their countrymen.

Good to see an old 1 RAR Digger getting it too.

First non Imperial VC awarded.  Stuff of legends.  I'd have this guy in my patrol any day.

Well done Troop.  Who dares wins.
