Matrix, I like the new arrangement of your titles on your board. The list was getting too long. So thanks it now seems more managable.

Yes, for sure.

If there is a better way, in time, I'm sure the better way will be implimented. The only complaint now might be that someones favorite game forum may be overlooked by the newcomer. Less exposure for new blood thus added life to the game.

I had to stare at it awhile before I figured out what you were talking about!  :)  I like it though if you have to add all those redirects (Advanted Tactics, War Plan Orange etc..) then you're just going to make those sublists a bit too long as well.

I must admit I prefered to scroll a long-ish page than have the new folder-ish based system........I suspect I'll visit far fewer forums of games that are not on my radar......and not enjoy the scope of all that is available.......but I'll bow to the wish of the masses........

I agree with the Avonmouth Penguin! I think the biggest and most vibrant forums deserved special treatment and should have been left alone.

Frankly, I dislike it when something get changed which I'm accustomed to for years and already hated the site revamp of wargamer.com. What was wrong with Matrix previous board style? :/

Then again grognard.com didn't change their layout for like 10 years, this looks so old school.

It looks cleaner-I like it. I was expecting a bit more though; some new brighter colors would be nice.

That revamp over at Wargamer was really dial-up unfriendly, and has cut my postings there by 75% I'd estimate.

Thanks for the feedback folks. We'll keep listening - please do give it a chance and see if you get used to it. A few more improvements are planned, but we had to do something to cut down on the overall size of the forum list and organize it a bit better for new customers with many more releases planned to come out in the next year.

Regards,

- Erik

A few days ago I started trying to organise the game shortcuts on my computer in a similar way.. but it didn't work for me. There were too many categories - similar to what Matrix has done - Ancient, Medieval, WWI, WWII etc etc.. and for some games it was unclear which category it should go in.. Matrix is suffering from this problem too, with War Plan Orange going in both WWI and WWII.

For the Forums, the main reasons I'm not keen is that I used to scroll down and could see immediately which forums had new posts. Now I have to click each category, see which forums I'm interested in have new posts, then back out again, and click another category, etc.. it's just not as efficient.

If each category was an auto expandable heading it would work better imo.

Actually, you can still see this. If the sub-forum link has an orange arrow next to it, that means it has new posts. However, good suggestions in general and the additional improvements planned are along similar lines.

I don't know how this forum engine runs, but at the one of the forums I'm often in there are different kinds of templates.
One of them has bookmarks (so it can be for each era) and other template allows to browse the forum in standard way (also allowing to slide off some categories).
You can see what I'm talking about here:

That WW2 group is awfully large.

Why not at least subdivide it by developer?

Participants in The Thread thread should be forced to navigate through each and every forum and thread in the WW2 section to reach that sinister place. Force them to rub elbows with the proletariat on their way to that evil star room. Have them log in at their arrival there with a 27 digit pass word.

In this way their behavior will be modified thus making the world a better place.

My 2 cents:

I'll probably get used to it but I'm definately visiting fewer threads outside the WWII one..... that to me is not a good thing.

I like the layout. It's much easier to pick a period and spot immediately where the new posts are. Breaking the games down by period is far better than the long list. I also now know all the games by Matrix which fall into the Napoleonics range, which I didn't before! So, when I'm hunting for a new purchase and have an era in mind, I can go straight to the forums and start browsing.

A definite thumbs up from me

Hi,

I agree 100% with what Banquet says.

The new format is an excellent model of inefficiency.

Was Matrix purchased by the government?

I don't like it. I find it too much of a pain to look at the small print (especially with my old eyes) and try and find out if any of the forums I regularly visited has any new postings or not.
