What are the better games covering Ancient combat?

I would like one that teaches a bit as well as plays well.

Its not an area that I have dealt with much so I thank you all for the help.

You might want to try the Tin Soliders series as well as the Gates of Troy / Legion / Spartan series or Legion Arena Gold. All of these are in our Products section and they're among our most affordable titles. There is a demo for Tin Soldiers: Alexander the Great here:

The Tin Soldiers games are terrific fun, a good challenge, and look good to boot. For history, though, try one of the HPS Ancient Warfare series. Buy one of each.

I've enjoyed all of the Spartan series that I've bought. Wouldn't say Spartan was too in-depth either strategically or tactically speaking. However, the identity and value of the resources on the map go a long way to explaining the whys and wheres of some of the campaigns during the Peloponnesian War, as well as the important locations. The battlefield system is simple yet excellent.
