Anyone who knows anything about this one?

New version 1.0 of the launch/switcher utility by Dave

It has been polished a bit since the beta and Dave has made it compatible with the AE Patch 02 changes. The main zip file includes the user guide (as a .doc) but he has also made it a .pdf and included it as a separate file for those who want to find out what the program is like before downloading the whole package. This first non-beta release has quite a bit more error checking than the beta but nothing is certain in software-land so feedback is welcome. I've also included the source file for those who are more adventurous.

Dave just sent me a quite interesting utility :

The main purpose of the utility is to provide for dynamic map effects such as road and railroad construction and some seasonal effects. So, using the utility, such works as the Ledo Road and the ALCAN Highway will appear per a pre-set (historical) schedule. Dave have called the utility a Launcher/Switcher because he found the best way to control the progression of map changes (Switcher) was to use a starting/return point (the Launcher) to keep everything in synchronization. The launcher has proven to be a suitable base for some other utility functions as well.

Dave Bradley programmed some excellent utilities for WITP-RHS and this utility began as an idea for RHS, but never got implemented in the old WITP. It is an intriguing concept but he hasn't updated it for a while, so I am not sure of its compatibility with the last two patches. Perhaps someone who has used it can comment.

We really need a slot in the middle area to put things like this.

For now you can check the member list for dwbradley. I don't know if this takes you to the latest version, however.

Version 1.2x is not quite ready for general release just yet. Quantas and i have a PBEM game going and I am using it for testing the release. A good thing too as I found some more errors yesterday. If all goes well over the next few turns I will post a link in the mods section to the upgrade, which brings compatibility up to the latest patch.

As a side note, I have been using launcher for two separate PBEM games (one in mid-42 and the other in early '43) and it has worked fairly well, I think. The errors I noted above tend to be display errors in the main window so the basic functioning of the map dynamics seems ok, or at least as far as I have been able to determine. If anyone else is using this and has any feedback, that would be useful and appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the update Dave.

I use version 1.0, I have Launcher update the pwhexe file then reload so I can use 1440 x 0900 wide screen mode.

Thata's a bit cumbersome. I just wasn't using the widescreen modes until I started testing version 1.2 in my PBEM games just a few days ago. I'll try to get this out there ASAP.
