Sorry for all the questions.

I know when you click on a unit the only enemy visible are the ones that it sees. See image below.

(btw, you can see the sniper sticking out through the steeple. And the mount line just outside the building. If there are other enemy units in the church when do they reveal? When you are very close to building? And do they have to be suppressed before you can enter?)

But when I click on an empty space on the map, those units disappear - I thought now you should see all enemy that all your units see?

You can't enter a building if it the enemy occupies all the mount areas even if they are suppressed.

I don't know why the German units can spot the Russian. Maybe it is the timing of the universal sight action (clicking on the map). Your infantry has recovered from being pinned and suppressed in the last turn. That greatly reduces their sighting ability. Maybe their status isn't reflected in the universal spot until the next turn starts. This probably prevents units from unbuttoning their tank during the orders phase, spotting then buttoning back up and still getting a peek at things without any risk.

How do you defeat units in a building then (I don't even know if they are in there - there was the sniper but he seems dead. Do they appear if you are very close to the building or do they have to fire to show themselves?).

Can you initiate close combat against them as you can against tanks?

Why does the line go pink if I cannot enter the building?

Thanks for your help.

I think one reason you can't mount the building is that your unit was pinned or suppressed when it tried to mount.

The pink is just an indication that the unit was ordered to move to a place it could mount. It doesn't let you know if the position is filled or not. In the same way you can order a unit to mount a tank at the end of its movement. But the tank can move away so the unit never gets to mount it.

You don't do combat with infantry at close range like you can do against tanks. But your firepower goes way up under 30 meters as that is grenade range.

It looks to me like there is something wrong with the sighting routine. During the ORDER phase if one unit can see the enemy unit, then then when no units are selected, the enemy unit should be visible on the map.

There's a chance that at the very end of the turn, the unit was in process of updating it's sight, but it should be that way. Any chance you have some saved games showing this? Though if I recall when trying to replicate this is that if you save and reload, you won't find this occurring.

I'll take another look at the code to see what I'm missing

EDIT: Can you check to see what version you are playing. I thought the last patch fixed those issues of LOS.

Thanks!
Rick

Looking at your images, I don't think there are any live enemy units in the Church. I think they would have been visible as close as you are. All of your units were pinned or suppressed during Turn 10, so they would not have been able to enter the Church even if they were close enough. I'm not sure they are close enough yet. Grenadier/1 still has an order to move to and enter the Church, Grenadier/2 and /3 have both lost their order to move if they had one previously.

Thanks!

Rick

Rick:

Changed .sav to .jpg to upload (screens.jpg).

Think this is the save around the time of that sighting issue. Thanks!

Thanks. I was able to download and open that one.

And I was also able to see the issue you described. Which is disheartening, I thought I had gotten all of those issues resolved in the last patch.

Can you verify what version you are using. You can see it in the Readme (you can get to read me from opening screen) or you can look at the tank number on the opening screen. (the screen where you choose to Play Campaign or Set Battle or load saved game.

I'll try to track this down. Thanks for catching!

Not a headache at all Gerry. I just recall being frustrated with those LOS anomalies and I thought I had them resolved.

Thanks Gerry for picking up on them

Thanks
Rick
