I'm in the process of working up some IJN DD's as an alternative to the standard art.

It's an ongoing process and working my way down the line , this week the goal is to get the Fubuki Class complete.

I wasn't sure if I could pull this off but learned quite a bit since I been playing around with these small ships especially the Ranger.

I'll update more as they get further along

Enjoy.

Nice! Are these the same type sides as stock or are these designs not in stock?

Hi Gary,
using copy and paste or opening the zipfile into the art folder will replace the images in stock. I tried to model them in a way they will fit well with the IJN art already available for use at BigB's shipyard. Brian looked a few classes over and said he'd host them on his site.

It's hard to see with the background but I fit in some sandbags around some vulnerable vitals using a IJN destroyer model I saw for inspiration. As you know working with bits for images such as these isn't an easy task.

I had resevations about doing them in part because I believe stock images are good and the destroyers are small , unfortunately it doesn't look like much interest is out there and other than enjoying them myself I can probably find better use for my time.

Here's the Fubuki's

If you'd like them in a zip file to look over pm me your email.

Hi Kitakami, thanks!! I'll make sure anyone that wants them gets them when the Destroyer set is complete. I know Gary does art so if he wanted to lend me his eye for constructive criticism I would send them to him. Sorry for any confusion.

Hi SuluSea, I took a look at the file you sent me. Great stuff! I think it really captures the spirit of what has come to be the most difinitive style in the UV/WITP/AE tradition. It really looks good and blends in well with all the work done by JWE, Big B and TomLabel who worked on the AE art. Well done!

NOTE: They appear to be a shade big compared to the standard AE scale but not so big to be too obvious. Overall the extra size helps enhance detail. Very nice work!

Will you do more than just DDs, or did I miss reading that in a post?

Hello SuluSea. John sent me this to post for you. he said you would know what it meant.
quote:

Once there was a world, and it was complex;
And there were pixels, that showed us the next;
Of possibilities and what could have been;
To structure the steel, like we might have seen.
There was the art;
There was the flow;
There was line of design;
There was the eye;
There was the eye;
There was the eye, and it was open.

I really think he likes you SuluSea. He don't write poems a lot unless it's something he cares about. He's a wierd guy that comes from a wierd space, but he's somebody to follow and if he wants to express himself in those terms, I better get my Alcibiades, Thucydides, and Herodutus in order.

Matt

Thanks for having a look Gary! I tried to stay true to the same formula, as far as length the height of the masts are a few bits taller which may be giving you the impression they are larger.

My process is--
I'll resize what I view as the best profile to around 475 pixels in length chop it out and resize it to the AE ship standard. It's fuzzy but using this method it puts me in the ballpark of where everything goes. From there it's the mark one eyeball as they say.

Thanks again!

Thanks Jeff, the plan is getting all the DDs done and go from there. Brian at BigB's Shipyard is going to be hosting them and I'll see what his plans are for additional ships on the Japanese side.

Looking at the editor I have the Kagero's (which I'm working on now) , Yugumo's, Akitsuki's, Shimakaze's, Yasoshima's, Matsu's, Tachabana's left before these types are complete.

Looking good, Sulusea!

Remember, IRL Yugumos did not loose 3rd turret like previous destroyer types. Stock scenarios got that wrong, luckily this is one of those many things Babes have fixed.

Looking very sweet Eddie. Some early war scenarios and fleet problems could use some better art, especially some of those Momos, Momis, 'takes, 'ukis, and 'kazes of yours. Will rip your stuff unmercifically Keep it coming.

Regards. Matt

I aim to please but don't tell the wife that.

I finished up the IJN DDs and have been in contact with Brian. I hope to put the package together tomorrow including the readme and get it to Brian so he can post at his site. Either Brian or I will inform when they are available. The comments have been very much appreaciated.

Excellent work, Sulu - you are always professional in your presentations.

I, too, want JWE back - one of my top mentors; it is not the same without him.

Mac

Damn. NICE work!

I'd happily import them into RA. Since you already have excellent work created for RA we'll just extend your 'contract' some more and offer TWICE the pay!
