G'day all just bought the complete NTW for $9 a bargain really. I have steered away for the Total War series until now as I thought they were just a click fest. Sure average AI a bit gamey, but it is a fun game to play especially with the DarthMod added. The array of units and brief notes on nearly all of them makes the 9 buck purchase worthwhile. I think I've my $9 worth already. If your bored and an interested in the Napoleonic era give it a go.

I love the Total War series, I haven't gotten anything past NTW yet. I think TW Rome is the best with the Barbarian invasion edition. They are not deep in strategy, but they are fun to play

Yes Aurelian, your right. Medieval II is the best one. I haven't tried the Stainless Steel mod though...I'll have to give it a look

I am rather a fan of Empire Total War with the darth mod. They are fun games with a pinch of history. Sadly my current PC cannot play any titles past Empire but I hope to buy a new PC before the end of the year.

Shogun 2 was actually a step in the right direction for the Total War series. The game became challenging again and some of the old from Medieval Total War I came through. The only thing unappealing about SG2 was too many units were all alike. So, I can't wait for Rome 2 Total War and hope and pray it is made in the same challenging way SG2 was. Of course my dream game would be Norbsofts combat engine and someone applying it to an empire building game. I don't care if it would take a year to play a game like that out I would certainly enjoy it.

I loved the original Shogun and Medieval War. I have Empire Total War and have played my money's worth off of it.

I remember in original Shogun, I think the province Shinano sort of central Japan. Had iron deposits and the terrain was a hill you could set up on. I'd place my heavy armored in the middle with monks with high morale to either side and let army after army break itself on them. They'd be so tired running up that hill that I broke so many armies (AI) on it, I'd go for that province immediately.

I found that in the first Shogun, if you waited long enough, all the clans would die off, then you just steam roll the warrior monks.
