Think I asked this before but not sure I got an answer..why do fields have less cover than a clear terrain hex? I'd have imagined that fields would have walls\hedges and also as it's summer tall crops. Also does the game have cover and concealment or just cover?

Sometimes I can't work out why the values are the way they are in the game..there are times when the exact same type of hex has a different LOS blocking percent. Not really a problem and I like the fact there are odd deviations which is a good abstraction to deal with abstract terrain to be honest. I would say people always need to check the % though when moving to a hex.

The main issue is the "clear" terrain really isn't. It's considered a mixed terrain with a few hills, trees and buildings. We just decided not to clutter it with small amounts of graphical elements. The fields are considered to be flatter and less obstructed then the "clear/mixed" terrain. The hindrance values will vary based on is a road is present or if other terrain types are found in the hex.

Hope that helps.

Ive to say that this sounds very counterintuitive.

A bit. The best way of looking at it is the hex is not dominated by any one terrain type. Perhaps we need to address the issue of saying "clear" in the game and use "mixed" instead.

actually i think what he says makes sense, although as he suggests maybe they could change the name of the cluttered terrain.

Changing to 'Mixed' would make it clearer ... No pun intended!

The manual does explain it as I did. I will note we should change it to mixed down the road.

Clear – No terrain elements visible on the elevation art. These tiles are
not really “clear” but they have a small amount of rolling hills, some trees,
field and buildings. Just not a significant amount to warrant art.

Aren't fields on hills and have borders and trees here and there though? Not sure if fields actually needs to be there at all...infact in the summer fields would block more LOS and offer cover at least to Infantry than grassland due to the crops..
