I've read on the Aegod forums that there is a 1.04 update coming out.

Will this update only apply if one has the Bloody Road South DLC or will the base game without the DLC be updated to 1.04?

I see nothing there about the crashing problem that has been extant since CWII first came out.

Crashing issues can be caused by multiple different issues.
Most of the time they are not related with the game itself but rather with the system.
Anyway, you should try the last patch. Also disabling the turn compression, and delete the "userpath.ini" (to force the game's saves and log files to be saved in the main game folder).
If still the issue persists please contact us with your crash logs at support[at]slitherine.co.uk, Matrix Helpdesk or even at the developers forum
