Does anyone have an idea on how to use what little assets are left in 1943 effectively?

You have like 4000 operational aircraft, the Luftwaffe is far from defeated in the summer of '43. During Husky there were more ground attacks made on American troops than on German because the Americans did not have enough fighters to cover the fleet and provide escorts for raids.

True. I've had some success in Med hording my bombers and ground attack aircraft waiting to pounce on Allied invasions at the edge of their fighter cover. Occasionally I get good results night bombing packed Allied airfields. Sometimes the day fighters come out and bloody my nose but sometimes they don't and you can destroy a couple of hundred planes in a mass raid in southern Italy or Sardinia/Corsica.

It doesn't change the war but keeps the Allies honest and helps discourages them turning every FB into a bomber.
