Seems to me that at some point it became possible in a pbem game where each player can choose or affect having combat summaries ON and/or replays on where the other player doesn't have to have them on.

Old guy memory or does this capability exist ? If so, how is it implemented ?

I don't think the capability exists to have different settings for combat replays. I believe the allied player is subject to whatever the Japanese player has set. However, you can press the esc button to speed through the replay, though some say this has the chance of increasing a sync bug.

The replay is generated and saved in the .001 slot before it even begins to be played back for the player. Pressing escape shouldn't affect that in the slightest.
