I've just transported some Superforts from Aden to Bombay using AKVs and it suddenly dawn on me that this should not be possible due to their size. What should be possible but isn't, is they could fly. Now all this is of course due to little quirks of the game.

What could have been done, but wasn't was have air ranges between off map bases and on map bases. Some aircraft could be ferried by air from off map to on, but it's one of those things that was never implemented.

Too true, one can only incorporate so much. I've tried to air transport bombers from off board bases knowing that they had the "range" but it's not allowed, so we must have some way of getting those units onto the playing board and ship transport is the answer!!! I guess the developers could have tried to put something into the system about 4 engine bombers not being transportable by ship, but then they would have had to put into the game a way of air transport as a special rule if deliverer to an off board location.

Can't you just fly them to India via Australia?

Just use xAKs next time. The B-29s don't need to be operational right after unloading them from the ships.

Come on now. It is no secret that they could be shipped on AKVs and then assembled at the destination....

Yes, but you miss the point. You should not be able to put them on a ship let alone assembled.

You have to employ house rules, there i many things you shouldn't be able to do like heavy aircraft in CVE's etc.

Lot of "fudging" had to be done to prevent "gaminess".
IIRC stock AE will not allow DC 3's to fly from CONUS to Hawaii, yet they did so daily IRL.
Same with B 17's, etc..

"Ferry tanks" were available on even smaller planes like the P 38, and would be navigated to long range bases by an escorting Hudson, etc.

Never heard of them being crated and assembled.

Does that mean that Allied player cannot recreate the historical deployment of B-29s from EC to India via landing in Africa and has to use ships loaded with B-29s on this route? That will a lot longer than RL, when the bombers flew from USA. Do you have to use the hopping from WC as suggested by sven6345789?

I play using RHS and it's map which shows many more bases than the stock AE map.
I develop bases close to those "off map" points of entry from which I transport aircraft and then fly them from those "on map" locations as soon as possible.
It saves weeks on ship transit, depending on where you fly from.
