Using StuartG's database I am in the process of creating a scenario set in 2022. The goal of the scenario is to test the Stryker Dragoon as a vehicle, and operating as part of the US 2nd Cavalry Regiment. I am using the Finnish map because of its close representation to the terrain found in the Baltics. The setup is a cavalry troop is sent to block the advance of a Russian BTG.

That is a very nice sprite, although I would argue that maybe British Scimitar turret would be a better “approximation”.

The Stryker has a remote weapon system doesn't it?

Maybe the AMX VCI turret in the French sprites? Erase the 20mm cannon and it looks pretty close.

I will say in early test, the Dragoon chews up BTR's, even the BTR-82A, and BMP's. When tanks show up the party is over. The challenge in that part of the world is the limited engagement ranges. When a T-72BM3 suddenly appears a 1,000 meters from a Dragoon the Dragoon is toast. I also am operating under the assumption that troop densities are much less than our classic 1980's Central Front engagement. Finally I probably need to go find the current US Army Scouts/Cavalry Operations manual and at least catch the high points in employing Strykers in the cavalry role. All in all, good stuff.

The Russian's did walk in to one of my kill zones, and before my M1134 SP-ATGM started exploding, I wrecked quite a few vehicles. The Dragoons, located to the southwest of this shot, also contributed to the carnage.

Hopefully Stuart doesn't mind - I took your suggestion Nik and ran with it.

I think AMX-13 turret would be a better choice, maybe M47 Patton , or even AML-90. In any case turrets should be placed further back on the hull, on + Y axis.

Has anyone tried out any of the other units in the Iraqi Army? A friend of mine manipulated a model of an EE9 that I subsequently coloured that we are pretty happy with.

The Stryker isnt mine, its something I used with the persmission of someone else a couple of years ago. I agree some variety in the matter of turrets would be a good idea.

Slightly off topic, video I think about NATO's current exercise underway in Lithuania. It's good, current day, combined arms footage. This is the stuff that makes me forget about Germany in the 80's.

Although it has to be said, increased lethality of the modern systems and what is often called Five Dimensional warfare make it quite challenging from gaming perspective. Players who lament their tanks being taken out by unseen enemy will have a lot of fun in modern warfare.

For sure, the ability to detect and avoid detection on the battlefield has never been more paramount. It is really hard to envision what land combat between near-peer opponents might look like even five years from now. I would argue though, that AB and whatever might follow, can be programmed as such to make it fun to find out. Plus how much stuff can one come up with to test out. I know I’m not alone when I use CMO to not replicate never was battles from thirty years ago, but to look ahead and see what happens when my multi-domain force tackles another multi-domain force. There is no reason a land warfare simulation can’t accomplish the same things that CMO can accomplish, plus let those who would rather not deal with the complexities of the current day battlefield just blow stuff up.

My task when I get home this afternoon is to add a drone, and see what happens. I tried this a few years ago and it was a success. Now I think with the addition of the HQ CAS option I want to see if I can create a three waypoint loop for a drone to fly.

Not sure if this helps, but I got bored and whipped up a quick MGS turret:

Just needs whatever camo the Stryker has. I can attach the GIMP file if you'd like.
